We had a week in Amsterdam and thought we'd try here for some traditional Dutch food, albeit with some modern touches. If this is an accurate description then I don't think it's a cuisine that's for me. The food was ok but there were few wow moments and the service was very slow and a bit patchy - for example... Cross a Michelin star restaurant with classic Dutch grandma's dishes and you get Greetje. I went on a Monday evening on a business trip, the restaurant was 3/4 full. The host greeted me by name when I stepped in - we never met. I appreciated the warm welcome and attentiveness. I came In at 8:10pm, my main was served by... More

Great food in a friendly and relaxed setting. In a lovely neighbourhood out of the hustle and bustle of the city. Do the tasting menu, you will not regret it! Only negative is the wine is a bit overpriced.

With a little slow start for the first drink , the total meal with starters, main dish and desserts were well done and delicious. The service and treatment was effective and professional. The way of have a taste of all type of starters and desserts gave a good flavour/insight of Dutch cuisine. Pricing in mid region but worth it. A restaurang... More

Food was okay - but just okay. Service was, Dutch, lacking. Atmosphere was okay, not great. And for the price, not worth it. And twice, we ordered a bottle of wine and they brought a different vintage - we ordered it for a specific reason/vintage - twice they did it. Really don't like that. But really wasn't impressed at all.

We spent a lovely evening here, after reading reviews on Trip advisor. The food was delicious and the service excellent. The waiters were efficient , helpful and entertaining. The atmosphere is lively , but there's plenty of space between tables , so you don't feel cramped. We spent an evening here without being hurried to free up the table for... More

On the recommendation of our Grand Hotel Amrath concierge we ate at Greetje last night. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and were made to feel right at home--a nice touch. Our meals were DELICIOUS 👍--dear wife had stuffed pork loin, I had wild duck breast(no pellets)😀 The service was prompt, friendly and casually professional--in other words, great. We... More

This little gem is hidden between two very touristic areas. The charming decoration reflected what they serve: traditional Dutch cuisine with a classy touch. Although the food took very long to arrive (almost one hour between dishes), it was worth it! The veal and the duck were delicious and the desserts to die for. Service was friendly too. It is... A great restaurant in Amsterdam for experiencing delicious Dutch food in a friendly and cosy atmosphere.Quote from the New York Times T-Magazine December 21st, 2010:"I finally found a real taste of Holland. And it was so good, I’ve been back several times since. Located in the leafy district surrounding the Montelbaanse Tower, one of the prettiest parts of the city, this cozy dining room with wood-plank floors, bare wooden tables and old-fashioned wallpaper, is run by René Loven, who named it after his mother, an apparently gifted home cook whose smiling face appears on the cover of the menu. The place is invariably packed with a jolly crowd of locals sating themselves on beautifully cooked versions of the comfort food they loved to eat as children".Quote from the Washington Post article May 11th, 2008: "Named for the owner's mother, this cozy restaurant may be the best example of contemporary Dutch cooking outside a home. Here's the place to try tiny, tender local shrimp; delicate slices of Dutch lamb dressed up with chive-flecked potato salad; lightly smoked eel with herbed mayonnaise; and the tasty North Sea fish known as tub gurnard."

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
