A quiet local (tucked away) restaurant near to the centre. A friendly welcoming atmosphere with excellent service. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely gorgeous. Well worth a visit

It was a cold weekday night in January and the restaurant, I am sorry to say, was nearly empty. The service was warm and attentive and the food -- veal tongue terrine and pheasant -- was very good. By US standards the restaurant is a great bargain and by any standards its off-beat and appealing appearance were for me worth... More

We read the reviews on TripAdvisor before coming to Amsterdam and as I wanted to try Dutch cuisine we chose here. It was a good choice for our last night away as the food was simply stunning, it had an intimate setting and the service was excellent (so friendly and can't do enough for you). The sharing platter for the... More

It was a highlight of our time in Amsterdam. The staff could not have been more accommodating allowing our group to try some of the local Dutch favorites that were fabulous. Small intimate setting that obviously popular with the locals.

My husband and I dined in Greetje and enjoyed every morsel. The restaurant is easy to find - around a 10 - 15 min walk from Centraal Station, and away from the noise, hustle and bustle of the main streets and canals. One of our complaints normally, is that restaurants can be shy in using flavour. My husband will also... More

Fabulous first dinner in Amsterdam. Started with the pumpkin celeriac soup for me and sugared bread with duck liver terrine for hubby. I had the spelt flour salad and hubby had pork loin. Dessert of cream brûlée with extract of sweet wood and black licorice ice cream. Did the wine pairing for each course which was great. Owner gave us... More

Wow! We went to Greetje for dinner as it was close to our hotel and had good reviews. BEST DECISION! We decided on the 3 course meal which included a sampling of all their entree dishes, a main course of your choice and sampling of all their desserts. The chef and staff did not disappoint! The service was friendly and... More

Having been to Amsterdam many times I have often been disappointed by the Dutch food but Greetje was a welcome surprise ( recommended by grand amrath concierge). The staff a really friendly and professional and were happy to help everything we wanted. Initially we were served dark bread with beetroot butter and pork fat spread - not very healthy but... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
