One of the very few places in Amsterdam where you find Italian food that tastes like food in Italy and not some bland northern food posing to be Italian. The slow-cooked lamb was phenomenal. The plate of Italain cheeses was also superb. However, the front of house was clearly understaffed and the friendly waitress obviously took too long to pay... More

Great hospitality and the service was very good. The food, especially the lamb was beautiful. This is a real authentic Italian restaurant. Its a real recommendation. It feels like you are in Italy.

Great meal, superb service. The mixed starter was the huge winner....generous portions of all the other choices on the menu. Lamb was cooked perfectly, the fish of the day couldn't have been fresher. A real family feel to the service, our waiter Max was friendly and attentive.

one of the great surprises is finding a restaurant that soon becomes one your all time favourites. Such is the case with al bacaro. Impeccable service... beautiful attentiveness... a tremendous menu with daily specials each one of which succeeded the next in interest. The small staff kept churning out amazing food from appetizers...to Homemade bread through entree and dessert. If... More

A cosy place in the Center of Amsterdam but not touristy. Great service and delicious food with nice wine. Their menu is not extensive but there is something for every taste. We had Antipasto Misto which had some usual stuff but also very distinct flavours. Sour Sardines & Creamed Cod served as part of it was the star. For the... More

I sent my friends there and gave a Groupon but they were treated in a very rude manner and the staff refused to accept the Groupon as they were told it was already used (untrue of course)!

Using the 'Around Me' app we came across Al Bacaro because it was convenient and we were hungry. It is really terrific. It's small, but that doesn't matter because it feels so intimate. We loved that you could see the chef preparing the food and know that it's simple and freshly prepared. The food was superb. We really loved eating... More

Al Bacaro is a 10 min walk from the flower market of Amsterdam. Take a good look, because the restaurant is rather small and you’ll miss it. The restaurant is just like the restaurants you’ll see in Italy itself. Small, not luxary and a certain simplicity. It’s all about cooking! The food is delicious, staff enthusiastic and the wines fantastic.... More

I'm hesitant to write a review of Al Bacaro. Not that it isn't good - quite the opposite. It's fantastic. Probably the best and most authentic for Italian cuisine in Amsterdam. The problem is, I love it and the cozy, romantic atmosphere - the warm, friendly staff, the amazing food, plus that I can get a table there without booking... More

The taste and quality of traditional cuisine with an innovative twist, you can taste its maximum respect for nature. This philosophy is underscored by the use of fair trade products and ingredients from Italy and Netherlands. For a perfect combination with the regional dishes there are, on the wine card, many available by the glass, small scale and artisan producers from Italy. For these reasons we choose to collaborate with the projects “The Alliance between Cooks and Slow Food Presidia”. Presidia are projects of Slow Food that safeguard small-scale quality productions that use traditional methods.
