We had the grilled chicken thigh sandwich, and it was great! The tomatoes were a little scarce though, and the service was slow and a bit unpersonal - but not enough to make the food itself a great experience. Would recommend for a quick dinner. We took the food to Begijnhof, and ate it there - it was really nice!... More

We enjoyed breakfast and late afternoon coffee at this place and we loved it, seeing the staff cook in front of us and all those yummy pies and great pastries. The atmosphere is soooo unique, feels like your grandma's house.

The cafe overall was dirty, staff wore jewellery and had long nails. We didn't see them wash their hands in the 45 minutes that we were there despite handling fresh meat and vegetarian dishes. Avoid if you have allergies!! Staff were rude too :(

We had breakfast at this lovely place but it is also perfect for lunch. The stuff was very friendly and you feel immediately comfortable. The sandwich, croissant and carrot cake were so tasty. The prices are very good. We will come back :)

Rarely go to the same place twice on vacation, but went for breakfast here two days in a row. Very friendly people, very REAL (non-tourist), great cappuccino, incredibly fresh pastries, lots of choice and charm to spare.

The atmopshere is very nice! But we absolutely can't understand why everything is served in plastic and throw away plates and cups. They have no real cups or plates. So you have to throw everything away! They told us that they can't handle to clean the dishes- so they produce a lot of waste instead! Sorry, care about our planet!... More

They serve crazy zucchini cakes and strawberry tartes and everything between these two ;) the vanilla chocolate cake was delicious and even if you ate enough the whole day, it's a quick win to take a look into the window of the shop, stare at the cakes and then decide to not give a **** about your summer body and... We were lured in by the window display of amazing looking food. They definitely know how to tempt passersby! And yes, you'll want to eat every last crumb.

First of all this place is not located in the red light district. It is located right off Rodin Avenue...and is far from the red light district. Secondly, the food, the pastries are second to none! I loved their scones...until I visited this place I had only had dry tasteless scones...these were moist and tasted wonderful. We were able to... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
