A lovely (and surprisingly large) bar and brewery hiding in a side street of the red light district, it took me a few minutes to locate the premises. Note that there are actually two premises one around the corner from the other. One is the bar & restaurant, the other is the bottle shop and tour booking area. About 8... More

Although this brewpub is in the very center of Amsterdam which is absolutely full of tourists this place wasn’t that crowded. They had some nice brews available, not that many but tasty ones. Only cash accepted (at least at that time). A bit inattentive service though.

The staff- and three people came round- know Nothing about beer- that is they could answer no questions about the hops being used in the different beers. We were in the bar only, but surely you would expect people working there having an interest in their product or at least be taught about it. Very disappointing. The "bitter garniture" was... More

This great little place is tucked away and not obvious to find - but well worth it if you do. A great range of beers from the De Prael Brouwerij along with bar snacks / nibbles available. A really good vibe and the place is really well turned out. We ended up staying for quite a while (easily done) and... More

It took us a good 20 minutes to get any of the servers' attention. Another 15 minutes to come back with a menu. Fairly quick with the first beer and taking our food order, but then close to an hour getting the food. Unbelievable, the place wasn't terribly busy. What looked like it could be an interesting place was destroyed... More

Came here with my wife for dinner. Overall the burger was great and I reallt enjoyed the bitterballen. Despite being right next to the coffee shops and red light district, it was calm and tranquil which was nice. What let them down was the fact that they accept debit cards but not Mastercard or visa. In this day and age,... More

Excellent selection of beers, good wine also. Lovely ambience. Great for a steak and a few drinks. Really buzzy and busy. All nationalities and ages, lovely mix of people. Staff also friendly and helpful.

This Place was a really good stop after walking the streets of Amsterdam for a while. Nice beer and the food looked ok even though we didn't try it.

Beers were good until we got the tasting menu. They were ok but a couple ones in there that were dodgy. The food was like standard pub food nothing to write home about. They had one meatball dish that looked like a plate a vommitt. (No my words but my friends) although It did look unappetising , saying that my... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
