Devastated Homegrown Fantasy has closed. I've been going for at least 20+ years, I think I remember when they opened. No new location? Just gone. So upset. Fantastic place for a weekday hangout.

Due to an endless campaign (since 2009) by Christian political parties, etc. to close this place -- they finally won on a technicality regarding legal distance from a school. HF had to close its doors on July 1, 2014. I was a regular visitor since this amazingly friendly and quality shop opened 25 years ago. The most down-to-Earth people, honest... More

This place plays the best music ever and the decor takes you straight to the 60s. You could spend hours here and not realize how time goes by. The place serves great coffees, hot chocolates and cakes too. I would come back here just for the music and remember to keep your shazam turned on :)

As we visited Amsterdam we tried to find a quiet coffee shop. All of the ones located in the center looked too confusing, packed with tourists (Ajax - Celtic game was on that day, so it was specially chaotic), so we decided to get a little further away. We found Homegrown Fantasy by chance. And it was a great find.... More

We went to Amsterdam this November for 3 days and visited almost every attraction/restaurant/coffee shop that trip advisor users recommended. But I only had an urge to write about Homegrown Fantasy. That is because it had one of the most beautiful and helpful staff ever. I do not know her name but she rolled a joint for me since I... More

Holy Grail and Chocomel from homegrown fantasy is the ultimate combination. The orange juice was good one day but not the next. The toilet was glow in the dark too. Great place

I just returned from a week in Amsterdam, and I have to say that Homegrown Fantasy was a great find!! Having just turned 50, I am not into the whole "Bulldog" or touristy scene. I am looking for a more mature crowd....Great smoke, got turned onto their own strain "Caramella" which was just great. I made my way over to... More

We stopped by Homegrown Fantasy one evening for a coffee and a quick puff. Selection was ok, nothing special but not bad. Coffee was pretty much the same as most coffeeshops. Staff were ok, not overly friendly but certainly not rude. Big sign in the window that says free wi-fi, however the barman said it wasn't working, even though my... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
