This cafe is hidden well, just off Leidseplein. the building itself is gorgeous. They have a very limited menu, but the dishes are tasty. I like coming here for tea and cake or a nice glass of wine. The table service is in general slow so dont go here if you're in a hurry. They also have a housecat you'll... More

Our party thoroughly enjoyed our meals. There are just a few entrees, but they didn't disappoint. We didn't have reservations but they worked to find a space for us. Some of us ordered hamburgers, and being Americans the bar is pretty high for burgers, and they were excellent. The other dishes were also very good. Price is reasonable and service... More

The place a is a cafeteria. It tries to give good food, by the complicated plates that are in their menu but the burger is the best that they've got.

Nice place with good service, fair prices for coffee and tea. No idea about the food quality. Good location at the Leidseplein.

We have just arrived to Amsterdam and needed coffee asap. We glimpsed at this place and got into it. Ordered a fantastic breakfast (scrambled eggs, croissant, marmelade, muesli, joghurt). The ingredients were really good quality. Coffee was around 6-7 on a scale of 10. The service was a bit slow, we had to wait quite long to order.

We go here often to have drinks before or after going out. They have a 'special' that is reasonably priced and often it's a gin and tonic. We only ate once here and that is because the food is quite average and there is a limited choice for vegetarians. On weekends, there is often a DJ so you can shake... More

De Balie is a cultural centre in the middle of Amsterdam for movies, debates and expositions of art. In daytime you can enjoy a coffee or lunch. And in the evening dinner. The menu is simple and nice, the staff friendly. Sometimes it's really busy because it's also a cafe.

Very nice place to meet the Dutch intellectual scene. There are many meetings, discussions, films and you will meet htese people at the abr as well. We had dinner as well but that's no succes. We had the burger with dry (old) bread, dry frites, too much unions. So bettrer keep it by drinks and talks.

Description
The Grand Café restaurant at De Balie is a friendly and accesible meetingspace, located near the lively Leidse square in the centre of Amsterdam. De Balie is the right place to work on your laptop in the morning while having an espresso and breakfast, to enjoy an appetizing dinner before going to one of our programs or concerts or to drink a beer with your friends. Our menu offers nice, homemade dishes for an affordable price. The meat we serve comes exclusively from animals that have had a good life, and we try to use seasonal vegetables as much as possible. We also always offer a vegetarian choice on our menu. On thursday, friday and saturday night you can have a dance at De Balie Draait, with different DJ's each week. We also serve mixed drinks for friendly pricing. De Balie also likes to help you think about organizing private dinners, drinks and other enjoyable occasions for large and small groups. Good to know: the proceeds from our restaurant and bar help fund the cultural programming at De Balie.
