I spotted this restaurant in the Lekker 500 restaurant guide and went there asap. It's around our corner and a few steps out of the city centre, so we could walk home. Beautifully hidden at the canal it's part of the 'Avenue Culinaire' and undisputably the best restaurant here. Personnel: attentive to the max. A bottle of tap water on... More

What a fabulous restaurant! everything was perfect. Great service, fabulous wine and superb food. We chose a three course menu but becuase we wanted to share everything the kitchen took the time to split everything in two and serve it as a degustation. From the chicken liver parfait amuse to the cured goat, it was all wonderful. We ran out... More

We went to this restaurant expecting a nice dinner based on its reviews. What we received was so much more. From the charming owner who helped us every step of the way with food and wine pairings to the exceptional preparation of the food, everything was perfect. Nice food but way too slow for a business meal. Staff were quite rude when we asked for our meal. Food was nice when it came.

Great patient service, took time to translate verbally the whole menu from dutch to english to us. The service was efficient and the food came at just the right time. Very classy presentation of food and the food was delicious. It's more of fine dining so it's a lil bit pricy. Great ambience as well.

We visited late one evening for dinner. They kept the kitchen open for us and we had a lovely dinner - the food presentation was to a very high standard and well cooked. Recommended.

Modern Dutch food, made with locally sourced ingredients cooked well in a "simple" way. By simple I mean really well prepared relying on the excellence of the ingredients and the super cooking methods rather than a fancy sauce or purée which others might use to cover defects in ingredients and execution. Also service was good and they made a real... More

I tried their speciality dish - roast duck, which cost about 20 euros. It was a duck leg with bamboo shoots and fries. It tasted salty and a little sour. And I ordered a dessert - chocolate puffs with sherbet on top and some pieces of strawberry around, which cost about 10 euros. Both the main course and the dessert... More

Restaurant Basaal has been based at Dunne Bierkade, one of the most beautiful canals in the centre of The Hague since 2001. Chef Bas Oonk has led the way for years with his culinary style on Avenue Culinaire, a range of restaurants and cafes on Dunne Bierkade, each with their own unique and international style. Cosy restaurant and terrace Basaal serves dishes from the European kitchen in a warm, contemporary and intimate atmosphere. The restaurant consists of the adjoined parterres of two small town houses. In the summertime you can enjoy dining on the spacious terrace with view on the charming Dunne Bierkade. Kitchen Over the past few years, Bas Oonk's kitchen has evolved into a contemporary, basic style using regional products. For several years, Restaurant Basaal has been a member of Euro Toques, a collaborative that focuses on the use of natural, and preferably regional and seasonal produce. In 2015, the Michelin guide awarded the efforts and consistent quality of Basaal with a BiB Gourmand. 'Bib' is short for Bibendum, the Michelin man, that awards a mark of distinction to eating establishments that offer an excellent meal for under 37 euros.
