We were walking past this cafe in the morning and were attracted by the display of what looked like a fresh tray of "Pastéis de Nata" ( traditional Portuguese custard tarts). They were simply divine! The pastry was very delicate and the filling was not as sweet as is commonly found. The place needs a refurbishment to bring it to... More

Enjoyed some wonderful pastries and coffee on the square! Great spot to people watch and very friendly wait staff.

I don't know what some reviewers are complaining about except it maybe relates to the time of year. Without reading any reviews, yesterday afternoon, we stopped, sat on the square & inside, I ordered a big beer, a white wine and a fried sausage (that came with lightly pickled vegetables) and I was told it would take 5 or 6... On a Sunday morning when not much else was open early we stopped here, on the main square for breakfast. The tosta mista was great, not flabby white bread but a crusty thick sandwich, our friend had the milanesa mista, a kind of pastry slice with ham, cheese, lettuce and tomato which served cold. Both were good and the galao... More

we were hungry. They had food and space on a busy Monday. Food was ok. Service a little slow but I think that is just Portuguese.

It's a café and it's old... it serves it purpose displaying a dated architecture. However, the cakes are rather good and worth a visit. The toilets could be improved because they are quite smelly due to the old architecture I imagine.

This is the old main cafe of Evora. Used to be amazing and chic few decades ago, with live singers. Today is old fashioned, with just very average service and very average food. It's good to take an expresso and drink on the outside tables, not sure for anything else.

We went here because Lonely Planet called it a crepe place. They only had sweet crepes on the menu, and when we ordered, were told, "We don't have crepes." So we got a hamburger and chicken empanada, both of which were frozen and then microwaved. The desserts were wonderful, however. A huge slice of something like a flan, but gigantic!... More

Our lunch on the plaza was terrible but Cafe Arcada, under the arcade lining the plaza, saved the day with sweet desserts - pastel de nata & pastel de lamego. These small egg & nut pastries are the heart of Portuguese bakery. The cafe itself is nicely modern with beautiful display cases.
