This was hands down my favorite dining experience in Portugal. We went to Evora and found the Taberna by a recommendation. We called them on the highway and they were fully booked, but they were superbly friendly and jovial and managed to squeeze us in....We rushed to find them and had to park several blocks away. After a brisk walk we got there exactly on time. They took us into the kitchen past all the pots and pans boiling away on the stovetop, into what was effectivelt a table in the kitchen pantry, where they preceded to serve us an epic meal of local delicacies and fantastic wine. The service was fantastic, all the staff appears to be family and in amazing spirits. We have so much joy watching them cook and being part of the kitchen banter as they brought us truly delicious courses. They also had their own labeled wine, named after different family members, the character of the wines somehow reflecting the characters of those persons (my favorite was the robust red named after the grandpa who was the previous manager, it was a bit grumpy at first with rough tannins but had a fantastic depth of flavor, was complex and very generous on the finish).
