They don't really explain the specials of the day, they grunt and say it's all good. Well the sardines were good as was the fish stew. Just put up with the service and you will be Ok.

A very nice encounter in Portimao. We looked for genuine restaurants and we found Dona Barca. The grilled fish is what we highly recommend; Sole, Seabass grilled to perfection! Juicy, tasty, yes we had two dinners and one lunch here (if you come for lunch even in the low season...it is full of local people...so really popular). Friendly staff, always... More

In most of Portugal the Prato da Dia or dish of the day includes the bread and olive starters, a main meal, and a drink but here it just means a main meal everything else is extra and can lead to an expensive lunch, try the sardine restaurants above the bridge by the river for a better Prato da Dia.

Wide selection of local food; everything we tried tasted very good; moderate prices; friendly staff; Seating a bit crowded, but as a compensation you easily get into contact with others.

Dona Barca is the only place in Portimão and surrounding area (including Praia da Rocha) where you should have fish. The fish here is guaranteed to be fresh (many times just out of the boat) and because of the high number of clients there are no leftovers for the next day. The place is always buzzing, it's open all year... More

I wanted to visit this local restaurant because of very good recommendations at Trip advisor. So, we were travelling in Portugal, Portimao was one of our stops. So, we finally found our hotel, we were cold of huge Atlantic wind and were thinking were to have dinner. I suggested this restaurant for my husband but he was lazy to drive... More

This fish restaurant is hidden near the bridge on the Portimao side with the stork chimney coming out of which serves as a flu for their fish grill. There are at least 5 reasturants in the narrow street that leads out. You can even pick out your own fish to feed a number of people. Excellant food with great covers... More

Went here for several times during my visit- and every time it was busy with locals , which is a good sign ( either come earlier or you will wait outside in a line). The seafood is perfect, fresh, authentic and prices are good. If you dont know how they fosh looks or how big you want- waitress goes with... More

We went to Dona Barca after our host suggested it, and she was really persistent. I can say for sure that she was absolutely right! The fish here is so fresh, you can taste it! There is a nice display of fish on ice and you can choose which one you want! The prices for fresh seafood are incredible! There... More
