Bumped into a local lady whilst we were taking a chance view into the small restaurant. Even with a language barrier we got the message to try it out. I'm no fish lover but had Grouper the first visit and sword fish the next. Both delicious meals at far less than city prices. If you want to taste local food,... More

We popped in as it looked like a place locals would go, off the beaten track. As starters, we order a tuna salad and some cod croquettes. Tuna salad was really good. On the contrary, the croquettes were cold, greasy and not very tasty. On to mains, we had some grilled squid, a platter with mixed seafood (clams, razor clams,... More

This is the place to go when you want to eat a real Portuguese meal like a local. Grandma and Grandpa from the neighborhood will be sitting next to you. The men from the local construction firm will eat their lunch here. Do not expect a perfect "foodie" type meal with high-end service. Go to Rio Coura for fish, shellfish,... More

We found this place while looking for a seafood tasca. The fried sardines were a delicious entrée, then the octopus and the grouper completed our meal as main dishes. We unfortunately had to eat very close to a guest, probably a friend of the owner, who shouted in Portuguese for the entirety of the dinner.

We had an omelette (average to good), a T-Bone steak (good but gristly), and grilled salmon (below average). The prices were reasonable and it's close to a lot of historic places... there's more restaurants around... to may to try on a short trip. Others, with better reviews, tended to be more pricey but there's a lot of options.

One can always count on good food at the Rio Coura. I personally recommend the Cataplana. Mr Jose, Bruno, and Isaac are great. Other recommendations are the arroz de marisco e goat.

Came here for lunch on a weekday and it was packed with locals. Had Carne de porco Alentejana (Portuguese style pork cooked with clams) for my main dish and it was absolutely amazing! Full of flavour! I enjoyed the meal immensely. Also had some cod croquettes for a starter, biscuit cake for dessert and the house wine. Didn't disappoint. Recommended!

Food was good. We ordered however some salad that was never served. Take care with the tapa they offer, as it was 3 euros , which I find quite expensive for Lisbon. My partner said it wasnt even a nice one as it was cold

It's a small restaurant mostly packed with locals. Simple food, perfectly prepared, at small prices. We tried the crab, the razor clams and the octopus and everything was perfect. The house wine is good and cheap, so if you are in the neighborhood, give it a try. The service is good and efficient. Be aware that during lunchtime is very... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
