There are times in life when only char grilled chicken with a spicy dressing will do and should you ever find yourself at the Restauradores end of Avenida Liberdade having a Piri Piri withdrawal meltdown, this little gem of a restaurant is there to relieve your suffering. Tucked up a side street opposite the Restauradores monument are this delightful pair... More

The menu is pretty similar to other local low budget options - so do not expect any surprises. But what they do is good - not outstanding - but two courses with wine under 25 euro - and that was half a chicken each for the main - is really good value. Good service, seating inside and out, non-smoking was... More

We ate there tonight after our visit to Sintra. I read about Bonjardim in a travel guide but not sure which and flagged it on CityMaps2Go. It was close to Rossio Station where we came in so decided to try it. The place was almost empty but it was before 7 when we arrived. Chicken soup was tasty and inexpensive.... More

This is a small restaurant that is a must do in Lisbon. The chicken (half a chicken) is cooked over charcoal and has clearly been marinated in herbs and spice. You add the piri-piri oil to suit your taste. Wonderful. Nice atmosphere and obviously a locals favorite

I had the half chicken with fries. It was ok, nothing special. However quite inexpensive, cost under €8. It's in a very touristy area too.

The hostel I stayed in recommended this place. I really enjoyed the chicken Piri Piri but it was not at all spicy as I was told it would be. The service is really fast and I truly enjoyed the entire Portuguese experience. The authentic life style of Lisbon. It's a little hidden but that's what makes it a great spot... More

Great spot. Classic fish cakes. Seriously tasty grilled chicken and marvellous apple pie. All at €20 including drinks for 5 of us. Loads of locals dining here which was a good sign

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
