We stayed right next door and came here to grab a quick breakfast each day. Fresh pastries each morning, opens early and nice coffee. You order at the counter and they give you a card loaded with your purchase and take the card to the cashier by the door to pay.

So, i went there for some milkshake and tea, just to relax in the evening. The milkshake was terrible, there was no milk inside i believe, it was with water. I dont know about the food or sweets but chocolate milkshake was just awful. My friends liked the tea though, they said it was good. Location is good btw

We used Cafe gelo several times, for light mid-day snacks and evening meals with drinks and were never disappointed with the quality or prices. It may appear more like a cafe than a restaurant but proved to be better quality than more upmarket looking premises. The staff were always very pleasant and helpful, and kept the place immaculate. It is... More

We stopped here and bought the little custard tarts one night, went back the next day for a drink, then stopped there again on our last day to have a drink.

We stopped by this cafe at Rossio on Monday afternoon. It overlooks the square, which was nice. The price of a cup of tea was shocking after seeing the cup. The waiter we had was very nice and willing to explain things, although it wasn't necessary. Good idea to put him outside as the ones inside couldn't manage a smile... More

The food was as the staff : cold, and awfull. Really the worst thing ever! The waiter didn't do any effort and bad organisation. Furthermore, the "cheese burger" was cold and just bread with 1 piece of no-melt cheese in the middle

After the server almost forgot to take one of our food orders, we waited for an uncomfortably long time for drinks, and even longer for the food. Our two paellas only arrived after the waiter tried delivering them to a different table by mistake. The vegetable paella contained different vegetables from those advertised in the menu, and the staff apparently... More

I went here to get take away Pasteis de Nata. I asked for 10 but the waitress was going to put them in to a square cardboard box that didn't look very sturdy, so I asked for the stronger long box used for travelling and she suggested that I could get 12 for 11 euro. So I said yes. I... More

This restaurant is in a great location but unfortunately this means that they don't have to work hard to get people to stop by. The service was fairly ordinary but the cakes were pleasant enough.

This cafe-restaurant was founded 80-100 years ago. It is at a nice square in Lisbon. They have their own baked pastries. My favorite is their special roll with cheese and sausage - for 1 EUR. They have inner and outer dining area. Their prices are low-medium. E.g. broccoli cream soup for 1 EUR.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
