My father in law was born in Portugal and he migrated to Brazil when he was still a baby, however his heart and his mind are always on the other side of the ocean... we decided to travel to Lisbon in family and make him experience something truly Portuguese merging culture, music, food and wine all together in one special... I think people have enough description about wonderful food and wine, great music so I would like to say something about how I feel. The host had some chatting with all guests before the show. And when he knew we are from Taiwan, Duarte showed us a notebook with message by some other tourists from Taiwan and asked us to... More

This comment is quite a liar and everyone who comes here knows that it is a lie. The water is the description and we have tables of 2 people to drink 4/5 bottles of water and we do not charge another penny, such as coffee or tea or bread or rice that people ask for more. Obviously the wine, if... More

I booked this restaurant for my father who is interested in Fado, so we came here mainly for it. (Before coming here, we went to fado museum) In my imagination, I could enjoy the cousin and the music at the same time, or at least I could enjoy the fado when I have the desert. but what they do is,... Starting with the title of your comment: Apparently the only one who did not understand the concept and seems to have been deceived, it was you. If you had read the comments carefully, you would know what was coming, because several comments detail how the house works. Other point: We always inform you, everyone, the hours and the operation, You... More

What an experience at this small venue. We sat by the door (good to get some air) but no tablemates. We upgraded to better wine, and had the fish. Olives, starters great, fish good no great. The owners are personality plus and so hard working. Fado music (owners and one other) didn't start until 10:30 and ended an hour plus... More

This venue is small. You feel like you're eating dinner in someone's home. Your hosts are family. The food was delicious, and abundant. The wine and port were tasty. The music was really great. What a talented group. We were in Portugal for two weeks and this was one of the best things we did. Highly recommend it.

I could not imagine a better or more fabulous evening of Fado, food and wine than the time we spent at Sr. Fado. The intimate atmosphere of this neighborhood restaurant was everything we were hoping for-- just a small number of tables in a cozy little venue tucked away on a back street of the Alfama. The owner and family... More

This was the best experience ever! We, party if 3 ladies, felt like have visited very hospitable family. Who fed and entertained us all night. The foid was great but this is not what you are coming here for. Music, poems and songs... I felt goose pumps when Maria and her daughter sang. The deep spiritual voice of Maria' daughter... More

On off the least pretentious of Lisbon's Fado restaurants is also one of its finest. Hosts Duarte Santos and Ana Marina treat guests as family and the homely ambiance is warming and inviting. The homemade gastronomy is noted for its textures and flavours and generous portions, with the seafood cataplana (stew) a much-lauded feast. The menu is limited, but here it's all about the quality of the food. As for the entertainment, this is local fado at its most authentic -- the singers and musicians have known each other for years, and the performance is heartfelt and genuine. Quite often, diners are invited to join in which makes the evening truly memorable.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
