Recommended by our hotel when we asked for a taste of local food. Right on the Main Street of Alfama. Large selection of local food. Had vegetable soup, cod fish and white wine. Both dishes were good but the fish was VERY salty. Entertaining staff which we did enjoy. This is the kind of place and food I like to... More

If you are searching for a "oldish" restaurant to eat fresh and good fish, here it is. I found a very good atmosphere and the service is fast and "familiar". Enjoy.

It's a simole restaurant not a fancy place but they have excellent sea food, very fresh and well cooked! I had the best dorada ever! And the starter - shrimps with some lemon and garlic sauce- was also very tasty!

Our second visit here. Had the steak on hot stone - told it was sushi ha ha😊. Beautifully tender steak. No room for desert. Tip- avoid the cheese and bread starters if you want I get to the end of the evening without rolling home. Food was great - served by very friendly staff and great value.

My boyfriend and I went here for dinner on a Wednesday evening. The service was fast and friendly and the food (bass for me, pork for him) was very tasty and served with vegetables. The restaurant could have benefitted from playing some background music, as it was lacking in ambiance when there were few tables full. We sat near the... More

Busy, good vibe and comedy waiters make this a fun place to dine. We ate here twice in our week in Lisbon. We enjoyed the fish with rice which was much more delicious than the prosaic title would suggest. We also tried beef on hot stone - an experience! Both highly recommended.

A very unassuming place. It was packed. The food was great and one of the waiters was a huge joker, teasing everyone. Just down hill from the fort

Small restaurant, close to Cathedral Se, the food outstanding, fish and seafood fresh, cooked right before our eyes, fun atmosphere: the waiters do all kinds of funny gags, jokes constantly. Sometimes you have to wait for a table. Prices not too high.

After looking for restaurants near to where we were staying, we decided to head to this one on Valentine's day - hoping there would be a table. The restaurant was in the area on the hill below the castle so the building is very old and the table area small, expect to be seated close to others (which wasnt an... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
