First time visit to Lisbon. After watching numerous YouTube videos about Portuguese cuisine was keen to try local food. Used Google search for restaurants in the vicinity pleased to have stumbled upon this restaurant. The ambiance and service leaves you with confidence that the food will be good and we were not disappointed. The variety available was very authentic and surprisingly value for money. We were served by Jarsen and Gustaf (apologies if not spelt correctly) very professional and attentive. The chef and kitchen staff are visible from front of house and it is apparent the food is cooked with passion. It was a good first night choice that we went back the next evening . Give this restaurant a try if you are visiting Lisbon.

Good food. Limited wine selection. The creamed cod was absolutley lovely. The squid was well cooked and all in all very high value for money. The wine was not well paired, limited in selection, and of we came back we would probably order a beer instead and follow up with a glass of wine on one of the adjacent wine bars.

My wife and I went for lunch during the week. We were able to sit right down in front of the kitchen which was really cool to be able to watch the chefs work and plate the dishes. We started with the bread and flavored olive oil which was a perfect amount for the two of us to start. For lunch we ordered the octopus and the black pork cheeks. Both were fantastic! Highly recommended while you’re in Lisbon. Keep in mind this is cash only. However, there are multiple ATMs very close if needed.

Found this while strolling on our first day of a Lisbon visit. Noticed the line of people waiting. No reservations taken, but well worth the 20m wait. Got soup of the day and fish (entire fish, grilled) of the day was wonderful, and included fresh vegetables. We sat in the entry way, and enjoyed watching the kitchen preparing the meals. Nice3 entertainment, while having our wine before ordering the main course. All the tapas and main courses were very reasonably priced (10-15 euros). Excellent service. We ended up returning a 2nd time for our last day in Lisbon.

We'd passed this restaurant a couple of times and there was always a queue outside. On our last night we left it until late and got in without queueing, so glad we did. I loved it, it is quite small inside and the chef's cook your food in front of you. I had a steak and my partner had salmon both were lovely and filling. The waiter's were very friendly and the restaurant had a nice ambience. If I go back to Lisbon I will definitely go back.

Very unpretentious, simple, friendly place. Menu was traditional, and the food really quite delicious especially for the price. It’s very tiny, and they cook the food right there as you walk in. Plus very reasonable in price, and very accommodating. We enjoyed the Bacalhau à Brás (aPortuguese dish made from shreds of salted cod, onions and thinly chopped fried potatoes, all bound with scrambled eggs. It is usually garnished with black olives and sprinkled with fresh parsley.)

An excellent find! We ended up going here for 2 out of 3 dinners we enjoyed it so much! Fresh fish cooked to perfection served with crisp veg and buttery new potatoes. The wine was delicious too! A wonderful selection of traditional Portuguese food. We loved the fact you could see it all being cooked in the kitchen too. Well worth a visit and very good value - an entire sea bass and sides for £17.50 would be unheard of in the UK! We loved this restaurant. Cash only but they make that clear so no hidden surprises.

We had the Peri Peri Chicken (a whole chicken for two) with the potatoes and mixed green salad. All of it was delicious and the overall atmosphere was delightful. Also, the restaurant provided great value for the money. We will return on our next trip!

We wanted a very early dinner on our last day in Lisbon so we finally made it to El Rei Dom Frango in the late afternoon and got right in. Luck and timing was in our favor because the place is very small. We had grilled sardines and the fish of the day which was Sea Bream. Both were done perfectly and came with mixed grilled vegetables along with a dish of olives. A glass of vinho verde was the perfect accompaniment. The waiter was friendly, very helpful, and service was prompt. Our only regret was we were leaving in the morning and unable to make another visit to this great restaurant. It will be on our must visit list when we return to Lisbon.

I love this restaurant!! I visited twice last year and once this year. The standard of food is just superb. A lovely, compact premises where the very friendly staff (kitchen included), share with customers the delightful aromas emanating from behind the bar. Fresh sea bass was the special on this particular day and it was just to die for. Unpretentious cuisine - simply fresh and utterly delicious. Can't wait to return!!

Found this restaurant on the off chance when wandering around the city and very glad we did. It’s small, relaxed and very good food. The fish were grilled almost in front of you (had sardines one night and sea bass the other) on a big grill and starters were excellent too. Good value and a great relaxed meal out. Note - cash only!

Just a warning up front this is a cash only place. So bring your cash because it's a gem. Although the menu lists both seafood and meat, I didn't see a single meat cross the pass. Octopus and sardines are the stars here and both are done to perfection. There are no reservations and only 24 seats, so you may wait a bit, but it's worth it. We got a cheese and meat plate, octopus, sardines and a liter of white sangria and got out for 63 Euro. The octopus ranks right up there with the best I've ever had, teh sardines were perfect. And we go the two-top where we could see all the cooking, which was a great bonus. Even at a higher price, this is a winner. At their prices, it's a "must." Just phenomenal.

Saw the queue and knew it was worth a visit. Staff very friendly and efficient. The food was so good we went back for more the following day. Food was prepared and cooked with love and passion and it showed in the flavours and presentation. Difficult to pick out a dish, but the scrambled eggs with sausage gave me a moment!! Will make a point a returning when we next visit the city.

In my week in Lisbon, I ate here twice. I normally don't repeat, but the sardines were so tasty that I went back for the octopus. The seafood is fresh and cooked in front of you. Simple, yet delicious. Yum! Service is excellent and friendly. Prices good, with mains ranging 13-18 Euros. Caveat: this space is a shoebox, tiny, so don't be surprised by a line. However, it's worth the wait.

We dined here in February, loved it, so we returned twice during our visit in October. The quality of the food is still excellent as is the service. We tried the octopus along with the fish of the day, Sea Bass the first time and Sea Bream the second. Again, all dishes were excellent. This is a can't miss restaurant in Lisbon. Not a large place but worth seeking out near the Rossio Train Station.

Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
