This city centre restaurant is used by locals and tourists alike. It’s hidden away net the cathedral. Basic décor but hugely popular. The menu was primarily one word based although there is an English version of the menu. English is not spoken. A very decent meal in colossal portions and very good service. Very reasonable prices. Watch out for the... More

Our AirBNB host suggested this restaurant for an inexpensive, tasty lunch. We loved it so much we came back for dinner a few nights later. Fantastic, fresh food and very inexpensive alcohol made for a couple of magical dining experiences. The seafood rice and seafood stew were top notch, but my favorite was the Shrimp with broccoli. Top notch.

We were super tired and starving when we get there and it was the closest open restaurant at the moment. When we came we found them in the middle of the table serving, but the waiter allowed us to enter. We ordered starter and a main dish per each person and we have never been so wrong about the quantity... More

It all started well with a friendly welcome, and we were surprised by the low prices on the menu. Then all other guests arrived in groups of 10, 20 and and more, all Under 25! We just could not have a proper conversation as the noise was so bad. Then the food came and it was very basic. It is... More

Many locals, very low prices. We had four main courses a bottle of wine and water for just over 30€.. the cooking was good, especially the sardines were really delicious. The entire staff was very friendly.

Portions and food ok but it took us 2 hours to be served! By the time we asked about the delay we were told that some of the ordered meat dishes were already out and had to be changed. It would be useful If we were told about this beforehand. Apart from that, nothing to say. Cosy environment.

My wife and I tried to go for dinner in the off season without a reservation and couldn't get in, so plan ahead! We went the next day for lunch and had a delicious, no frills meal with huge portions that was INCREDIBLY inexpensive. Not touristy in the slightest (although they do have an English menu) so if you want... More

A family restaurant run by three generations in some industrial-looking building (former repair shop?). Not a place for trying haute cuisine, but a destination for those who appreciate relatively low prices and honest portions. Baked cod is excellent.

It is fun to go here once, the place is full of young locals that are likely on a tight budget, and it is ok for that. Due to the acoustics and the public it is very loud inside, which adds to the specific atmosphere. You will be likely seated at a long table with other guests, and not expected... More

Was brought to this place by a friend and thoroughly enjoyed the meal! Great fish, pork and seafood rice & the price was really affordable as well. Would def recommend. Oh and the best sangria I've had the whole time too!

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
