Can't say enough good things about this funky little restaurant. It was recommended by our air bnb host, and happened to be a mere minute's walk away. Our first time there we got ourselves on the waitlist right as they were opening for lunch. But...it was a fun wait: the server was happy to bring us a half carafe of wine and an order of empanadas, which we enjoyed at one of the little tables they have parked right outside the front doors. It was a nice day out so the fact that the little empanadas were super-delicious made it all the more pleasurable. After about a half hour or so a six top table became open and they seated us along with a solo diner, and another couple a little later on. We ate with the solo diner and got to know her (a delightful person who though on her way to Senegal, had a lengthy enough layover to take a long lunch). Everything was so good. I had the Ervilhaus Pernil & Ovo (i.e. green peas, ham and egg) and my spouse had the Migas D'Alheira (poultry sausage & Cornbread) and a watercress and orange salad. Nothing fancy, just really great home cookin' style food. On our last day in Lisbon, we felt we had to try to get in again but this time we came at noon (a half hr prior to opening) and were first in line. We got in right away due to a cancellation and this time got the beefshank sando and the "hand job" cod salad, along with the entrees we'd had last time. We ate a lot of good food on this trip by Velho Eurico was our very favorite place. In addition to the fab menu, the vibe is loose and fun and the staff really easygoing and fun. If you go to Lisbon, go here but try to make a reservation ahead of time!More

Very good quality of food. Very fresh and tasty. The staffs were friendly and nice. Glad that we had made a reservation. It was long queue for walk in. Highly recommended.

This tiny restaurant receives a lot of hype and it is worth it in every possible way. With just 12-14 tables, I would say definitely book 30 days in advance on the Fork app. The restaurant books each table only once and allows walk-ins when...the tables turn. That said, if you don’t get your name in by 8:15 (15 minutes after the restaurant opens) you will likely not get in. The food is amongst the best in Lisbon and very reasonably priced. Watching all the people, from around the world, try to talk their way in, is great fun! This is a must do in Lisbon.More

⭐ O Velho Eurico was all over social media of the best place to dine at in #lisbonportugal ⚫We made reservation a month out before we arrive in #lisbon . The place is small, but service moved smoothly. There was a wait-list for people that...didn't make a reservation. ⚫Here is what we got: 1️⃣Lamb with Chestnut 2️⃣Beef Shank Sando 3️⃣Codfish without Cream 4️⃣Squid with Orange 5️⃣ Cuttlefish Inked Stew 6️⃣Fries, "Francesina Sauce" ⚫The presentation on everything was nice. You can notice the attention to detail. ⚫The Lamb with Chestnut tasted Braised to the point where the meat was tender & juice. ⚫Beef Shank Sando was a hot mess of goodness. The beef was soaked in its own juices making every bite a flavorful bomb ⚫Codfish without Cream had a flaky Cod in a nice seasoned sauce. ⚫Squid with Orange was a nice surprise. The Squid was perfectly cooked with a smokey taste with a chewy texture. The Orange gave it a citrus taste that just complimented the squid ⚫Cuttlefish Inked Stew was decent it just had too many beans in it. Cuttlefish was fresh & tasty ⚫The Fries were crispy & yummy Overall, pretty reasonable price for the quality of foodMore

We were lucky enough to book the day before for lunch. Recommended by a lical tour guide. It was very busy, popular and tables very close together. Rustic graffiti etc on all the walls and tables. Blackboard menu with some English. We had a lovely...waiter. Food was delicious! Try it if you can!More

Food looked great however we were put off by the arrogance of the staff. The general attitude of the staff was very bad. We enjoyed drinks, cancelled our order and left.

Really liked the ambience and the welcome but the food was very disappointing. Steak sandwich very dry, same for the chicken in the blood rice. House wine was was ok though so drowned our sorrows. Disappointed but hey ho - you live you learn.

How they treat customers is unacceptable. We booked two months in advance and were asked for a deposit of 40 euros. On the day of the dinner, given the traffic in Lisbon, we unfortunately showed up at the restaurant 3 minutes late (taking into account...the 15-minute tolerance written in the 'contract' at the time of booking). Once we arrived, our table had already been given away. We had to wait outside more than two hours as if we had not eaten there they would have kept the 40 euro. The food is good, and above all the quality of the raw material is impeccable. However, never seen a restaurant where they give away your table for a delay of 3 minutes, especially if you don't have a telephone number and you ask 40 euro as a deposit. Someone has to teach them that the experience is not only about the quality of the food but also about customer service.More

This was my favorite restaurant in our two-week stay in Lisbon. My partner had a different favorite (search our posts to find out). Although it bills itself as “restaurante tipico”, it is anything but “tipico”. We had quickly become tired of the bland and boring...Portuguese grilled fish scene. This kitchen knows what it is doing. Without violating their Portuguese heritage of fresh seafood they meld and balance seasonings to accent and compliment the flavors of the cod and the shrimp. Even the entree ‘cabbage sprouts and celery bulb’ which sounds so uninteresting was a complex of unique structures and flavors. I could not understand how they did it but my palate loved it. Even the humble bread and cheese was outstanding. The restaurants up until now discouraged us from ordering a bread plate because, while the bread was artisanal, it was uniformly bland and tasteless. Not here! The bread here was a strong sourdough with nutty, wheaty tastes with a delicious, firm crust and a spongy, almost unctuous structure. And while most tascas serve little dried slices of tasty velho cheese, O Velho Eurico serves a delicious baked amanteigado cheese, and might I again say unctuous? I tried to find out the source of the cheese but the waiter was in a perpetual rush and my Portuguese was inadequate to learn anything more than it was a sheep’s cheese from Alentejo. (One of many.) Our piri-piri shrimp were fresh and were seasoned nicely and bacalhau à Brás was very flavorful with a creamy consistency and crispy, freshly-made potato batons. A word about the ambience. The lavish grafitti-loaded tile walls were a very artsy-yet-homey touch to the place. The dining area is small, so it cannot get too noisy. I liked that the serving dishes were chipped (see photo) because it felt so unpretentious. If you rank your meal itinerary by stars or green disks, this restaurant’s review standing is decreased by a large number of one-star reviews. These are predominantly left by walk-ups who were turned away or waited up to 2 hours for a seat. No 1 hour meal is worth a 2 hour stand. You must make reservations to eat here. The quality of the food here is widely recognized. You must also make your reservation days or even weeks in advance. You have been warned.More

Never write reviews but this experience deserves one! One of the best restaurants I have ever been in Portugal! Very difficult to get a table but is definitely worth the wait! AMAZING food, great atmosphere and incredible passionate staff! A special thanks to Antonio, Maria...& Tomas for treating us like we were part of the family! The food is undeniably delicious but what made our night was the team working behind it for sure! So attentive, friendly, fun & accommodating! I am Portuguese but living in London so I am used to experience different restaurants and cuisines in both countries but I have to say that this one beats every single restaurant I have been - including London! If you are in Lisbon, don’t think twice and make sure you book in advance! Thank you again to all the team for providing our group a night to remember! We will be back!More
