The place is a bit hidden as it stands in a side street, but very central. Typical Portuguese food is served and prices are very honest. Portions are large and quite tasty. The menu is translated in 6 different languages. They have house specialties different every day. We tried the salted codfish and fried grouper. As a started they rough... More

This is a great place to enjoy typical Portuguese food. The menu offers a good range of dishes and the service is friendly and attentive. Highly recommend.

Located in downtown Lisbon close to Praça da Figueira. Not too big, not to sophisticated, not too modern. The cuisine is simple and genuinely popular. The staff is helpful. Choose the plats du jour.

If you are in the area you should eat here. The staff is friendly, the food is fresh and the dessert is delicious. I especially enjoyed the sole fillet with the rice.

It was raining cats and dogs and we were looking for a nice place for lunch. La Granja Velha offered space and a very nice menu. We had the bacalhau specialty for 2 persons. Lots of fish and a very good taste. With it a bottle of cooled Vinho Verde and a nice dessert for a finish. After paying we... More

The owners of this restaurant are the same ones that one "Restaurante Dois Arcos", which is just on the opposite side of the street. Both restaurants offer good simple traditional Portuguese food. Fish dishes (bacalhau, dourada, açorda, linguado...) are specially commendable.

The restaurant is just a bit off the beaten path, but it offers a good Portuguese food experience. We got there at about 7 pm, so one hour before all the people start dining around these parts, and the restaurant was absolutely empty. But, nonetheless, the waiter showed us in, and the order came surprisingly quickly. The food was good,... More

Even though it's really close from Praça da Figueira and Terreiro do Paço, this restaurant managed to stay very traditional. The food tastes like Portuguese home food and the locals also eat here. Very affordable (main courses start at 7.5€). It was good to visit my home city with family and still find new nice restaurants !

It's hard to find a great place in a touristic area such like these streets. But here they keep the local food and traditions at its best. If you wanna taste local cuisine, with traditional and kind service, you should stop by. Excelent quality and fair prices.

Thank Guillermo M

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
