A very good experience. We got 10 courses and 7 wines for 200 € each. The food was mostly fish, but there where also some other courses. It was a really great experience and it was pretty cheap for a 2 star Michelin restaurant.

So decided to try a fine dining restaurant, it was 145 Euros, for the menu we had which was 12 courses, I think that was probably 3 courses too many in my opinion, the first few dishes were shaped like beans though they were liquid inside the flavour was interesting though I was not completely won over by these, There... This restaurant was meant to be the highlight of our eating experience in Lisbon - it's apparently the only two star Michelin is Portugal. The previous night we had been to Alma, which is a one star and we were blown away by it ... so were expecting even more from Belcanto. Like other high-end restaurants in Lisbon, Belcanto keeps... Following our Google map we decided to enhance our appetite and walked up from the plaza which turned out to be not as easy as shown. The gradient was not steep but the slope was winding and long .. by the time we reached the restaurant we were short of breath. Totally unpretentious the warm and simple setting immediately passed our... More

We went to Belcanto to celebrate my husband's birthday. We stayed at The Chefs Table which promised a fixed priced 10 course menu ($300 per person) with wine harmonization included and a great experience. We weren't disappointed at all! The place is great, the food was delicious and inventive and José Avillez himself came several times at our table to... More

This is one of the finest restaurants in town with a great and elaborated cuisine. The atmosphere is pleasant as well the service. Clearly overpriced.

Me and my husband visited Belcanto on our wedding anniversary and we chose to have the tasting menu and the recommended wines to go along. It was a glorious experience, with surprising flavours and textures, that was definitely special and unforgetable. It is an expensive meal, but we felt it to be worthwhile, a wonderful way to celebrate such a... More

Jose Avillez looks at haute cuisine as a form of expression. At the Belcanto he shares his inspirations, emotions and concerns through his culinary representations and illusions. Each dish tells a story and sets out to stir the emotions of those willing to try it."

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
