We had been walking the streets of Lisbon very late when by sheer miracle the owner of Grand'Elias happily took us in. He was about to send his poor staff home at the end of a long day and he let in 8 very desperate travellers. The service, food and atmosphere were incredible. There's no way we could of found... Recommended by our hotel as having good local food, we were put off by the tacky entrance, but entered anyway. Obviously other hotels also recommend (perhaps they receive a financial incentive) but it was the worst meal I have had in a long time and definitely the worst food I ate in Portugal. Salads were tiny, main courses were fatty... More

Staff really friendly, the Portuguese food is awesome in this place, ask the waiter for their recommendation on the food, and also on the wine, they usually have wine on sale which is really good if you are in to it. They also have some small rooms great for loving couples.

Welcoming staff with delicious Portuguese food. Well-drcorated inside, from outside you cannot imagine how big restaurant is. Even they cannot speak English well, but they do their best to help you. I recommend this restaurant.

Great service. Our waiter did not speak English. He really tried to communicate and without an attitude. Very classy and professional. He gave us some Port wine and cherry liquor as a souvenir. Atmosphere seemed possibly outdated yet authentic Portuguese. Food was good. The veal was a little tough but the mushroom wine sauce was delicious! Little expensive. They will... More

Decent wine and lovely people, with a great sense of humour - and kindness itself, with cherry brandy given to us to round off the evening. The trouble was - an inedible beef steak, indifferent dishes in general, and just a hint of utter loss of plot about ordering, sequencing dishes, etc.

This restaurant is popular with the locals and as soon as you walk in the door you can feel the history of a local treasure. The food is great and the servers are all men who have been doing this for years and clearly take pride in their work. The Veal Madeira, Leg of Lamb, and Chicken Casserole were all... More

Dined here with friends and enjoyed the unique ambiance and service. Was seated in a private room and our food was served without delay. The grilled salmon was tasty and enjoy able and served with potatoe and rice.

I had a great ox tail but my wife's duck was very overcooked. Nice atmosphere inside with a friendly owner who insisted that we try his special porto and aguardiente on the house. They all have grilled fish, goat etc. Give it a try.

They welcomed us although it was late at night. We had a sperate dining area. The food was okay. The waiters were very attentive. They brought over too trays of port and we left not feeling shortchanged.
