We just loved this restaurant which we visited on a Sunday evening. The staff is very friendly and correct. They often have live mudic and the night that we visited they had Fado music. This was very entertaining. I could not understand a word but the music really touched me. The food was absolutely delicious. We chose the octopus and... More

We were looking for a fado restaurant in the area. We didnt find any that didnt look other than just a tourist place. We eventually entered in this one and we're glad we did. The waiters are extremely kind, especially with us picky French people. They speak french and english. The atmosphere is very cosy and "intimate" with the stone... More

Small restaurant with a part open kitchen serving good portugese food with a slight modern european twist and some good local wines. The chef / owner had a fallout with some of his waiters so that kept things lively. Food was good, well presented and tasty, although the crispy vegetables in what should have been tempura were a bit heavy.... More

Very nice meal: monkfish with a delightful lime sauce. Very reasonably priced for what's on offer. Smells from that kitchen help to entice the appetite. Presentation of the dishes is well executed.

Everything was fabulous, and the prices are quite good for the area(close to Sé de Lisboa). Live music with a great meat dish (wine selection is good, plenty of true Portuguese dishes to choose from). It's not a very big place, so it feels warm and personal.

We came across this restaurant by chance after we visited Se Cathedral. The restaurant has about 12 tables in total so reservation is required unless you turn up, like we did at 18:30. Duetos da Se has vaulted ceilings with stone walls, atmospheric lighting and candles on each table creating a romantic ambience. The menu is not excessive but oh... More

We are a group of seven friends travelling together. This was our first time in Lisbon, but my sister-in-law has lived here for several years. She was insistent that we check out Duetos da Se and she could not have been more right. We only have a few more days in Lisbon, but I expect the group will opt for... More

Recommended by our hotel - one of us is a vegetarian - not easy in Lisbon! The kitchen cooked a special veggie meal, and every course of both meals were delicious. Attentive and characterful service - very tasty fizzy vinho verde. Fado is pretty much compulsory, mind - but shouldn't have had a week in Lisbon without encountering this music... More

We ended up in this restaurant by mistake because we didn't want to eat tapas and we had luck in finding a table for us in this place before the stream of people. After 30 minutes the restaurant was full due to a beautiful concert of a Fado duet, we were delighted! The service is a little slow, but the... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
