We chose O Jango as it was close to our hotel (Portobay Santa Maria). Outside tables were full, but we were offered an inside table plus a glass of Madeira wine. Quiet to start with it livened up rapidly when heavy rain forced everybody indoors. Food wise I chose fillet steak on a skewer and my wife chose a chicken... More

The number of eateries in the old town is almost overwhelming. The ones closest to the sea front seemed to be the worst and brought tears to our eyes! One street behind and things got better."O Jango" caught our attention. Plenty of fish on the menu, "espada" done in a number of ways and at a reasonable price for the... More

Expected more from here as it was always full when we passed, but we were disappointed. Set in a busy street full of restaurants, the setting was nice, however, apart from the garlic bread (served everywhere in Funchal) which was really tasty, nicest we had all holiday, the rest of our meal wasn't anything special. Service was quite slow and... More

We were hoping for a good local restaurant with lots of passion for madeiran cuisine, instead we found very average tourist focused food, with prices on the high side. There was no love in the service either.. a disappointing choice for our last night in Madeira. There are better out there.

One of many restaurants in the old town and well positioned. The staff can be very competitive in the evening to coax you in so it is difficult to browse any of the menus of the many similar restaurants on this patch. We checked it out earlier in the day and there is not much to choose between many of... More

In the street of many fine restaurants it is difficult to choose but we opted for one we had tried a few years ago and it maintains its high reputation. Very helpful staff - we both opted for the skewers of beef - a super meal and plenty of people to watch as the evening goes by.

We first visited O Jango 20 years ago because it was my Dad's favorite restaurant. Mum and Dad had a timeshare at The Madeira Carlton. I remember it being a magical experience. It was just as good and hadn't changed much. We had to sit inside then but now you can sit outside on a little terrace which was really... More

Went there twice with a friend while on vacation. It is her favorite. I found the food good and the service good. If you like to eat in the old town atmosphere this is a good choice. Very small and quaint .

We went here for lunch and shared the shellfish platter for two, we also shared a starter and dessert. The food was not very good at all, I felt very disappointed with the food, the main was all heavily over cooked and I couldn't eat the majority of it. Also very expensive for what we had. There are far better... More
