We’ve eaten once in a one-star Michelin restaurant, but never before in a two-star. But it was to be a special birthday treat for me and I was very much looking forward to it. It was a Saturday night and the only menu options available...More

An amazing restaurant, splendid food and delightful staff. When we are staying at the delightful Cliff Bay we always dine at the Gallo d`Oro, normally Monday and Friday, never disappointed.

We have celebrated a very special event that evening and ordered a six curses dinner with a sommelier wine selection. The " tribute to Madeira Cherries" was excellent but the main dish was a disappointment, so were most of the recommended wines.

The people were very nice so it pains me to write this....but the food was good, but not really anything special. The prices were way too high for the experience. There were many restaurants which were better and literally 25% of the cost. The restaurant...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Will Gallo d'Oro cater for Gluten and dairy free and not just offer me sorbets and food with no sauce ? So I mean really cater by challenging the chef to provide sauce? Maybe make me a special desert. I can give you eight months notice!!!

I asked for a gluten free dinner, I had been invited by someone who had ordered beforehand, so they did not have time to change the menu but they did suggest a different one and it was delicious.

The Il Gallo d'Oro is the gourmet restaurant belonging to the five-star hotel The Cliff Bay [Funchal, Island of Madeira, Portugal]
Since 2004 the cuisine has been under the guidance of French Chef Benoît Sinthon. In 2009, Il Gallo d'Oro was awarded the first Michelin star on Madeira, an award which has been renewed yearly until 2017, year in which the restaurant is distinguished with 2 Michelin Stars. The sophistication of the Iberian and Mediterranean cuisine that has resulted combines regional products with top-quality ingredients from other regions on the Iberian Peninsular. The wine list, which boasts more than 300 top wines, was distinguished in 2013 by coming in second place in the National Wine Lists Competition.
Vegetables, fruit, aromatic herbs and flowers from the region highlight the key role fresh produce plays in his cuisine combined with high quality products from various other regions of the Iberian Peninsular.we recommend use of jacket or tie for gentlemen. Opening times: From Monday to Saturday from 19.00 to 22.00
