I’ll get into the food in a sec, because as much as good food is key to a great night out, the service you receive is the essence.
How sad that 2020 has seen Mediera suffer so much, with it relying on tourism for almost...everything (they get an influx of almost double their population each year) and due to COVID, the place has been a ghost town for so many.
Wandering down the old town you’ll see many quiet places as the moment, and when you do, be sure to give O Reigional a chance - and when you do, say hello to Antonio who will look after you from the moment you step inside his world. His plea for us to give them a go, when usually it would be packed nonstop, was inspiring in a deserted street. We couldn’t have made a better decision.
He talked us through not only the menu but what Madeira is all about and how it had suffered - even offering us discount - not that we took it because we were more then happy to A) help out and B) felt it was throughly deserved.
Attached you’ll see scabbard and banana (a local delicacy) but also a huge piece of Sea-bass. As we were torn between the two, he let us share both dishes and each had their own game to bring to the table. For someone who was sceptical about a fish and banana ensemble I was so surprised at how tasty it was. The food was beautiful.
But like I said at the beginning, food is key, the service is the nucleus to your evening and Antonio and his staff were terrific, helpful, talkative, funny, kind and charming.
I cannot recommend those place enough.More
