I loved the food and wine here. We were a group with various dietary requirements and we were all satisfied with the choice. My steak was particularly delicious, I cooked it myself on a stone. Great staff too, very friendly.

I decided to try this restaurant out after a long day of walking around the city centre. I am a solo traveller and wanted somewhere that had authentic food but was still in the city centre. I was sold by the reviews that said that...locals frequented this place. The prices are a bit higher than the other restaurants in the area but I feel that is completely justified in the quality of the food. I was their first cover for the night having arrived at 6.10pm. I requested to be sat at the back so I could enjoy my solo dining experience away from foot traffic. That was a good choice as I had the entire back garden to myself for some lovely photos. There are a few painted doors in the area and a leafy design perfect for pictures. I had the Black Scabbard "Espada" fillet with Banana and Passionfruit Sauce. This seems a weird combo but it worked perfectly. It was served with crushed potatoes and veg all assembled well on the plate. I asked the waiter to recommend a wine to go along with the dish and his choice was spot on. I felt totally comfortable there as a solo diner and I highly recommend going.More

Santa Maria has become my favorite restaurant. The Food is exellent and the prices are very fair. If you‘re at Madeira its a must have .
