It's a small bakery with a huge variety of home-made pies, from classical spanakopita with spinach to variations with sweet red peppers, cheese or even pumpkin; their sweet pies are excellent as well. You can't sit down inside, but hey!, for 2€ you'll get some great street food. Thumbs up for Ariston, literally "the best".

Ariston has been around since 1910. It is certainly clear why. Ariston bakes the best pies in Athens, whether it is cheese pies, spinacjh pies, meat pies, or any of the several freshly-baked offerings. Cheap, fresh, and tasty - what a winsome combination!

The pies here are wonderful. We stopped by and grabbed a few for lunch. Lots of different options - vegetarian and meat. The pies are soft and warm. The spinach and feta and the sweet red pepper were delicious.

We read about this place on a Greek breakfast blog, and it also had really high TripAdvisor reviews so came by for breakfast one day before heading out. We ordered a potato & cheese pie (whole wrapped), and also a mushroom, chicken and mustard pie (sliced type), €2 each. The pastries were lukewarm and not that crispy, so it was... More

This is a traditional place for pies in central Athens, that has already been there for many decades. People are nice and friendly. They have standard value and good prices. Knowing the whereabouts in Athens, I can get a better cheese or spinach pie (they produce in all bakeries) or some specific type of pie elsewhere, but this place has... More

They have both sweet and savory pies - most made from phyllo dough. They bake the pies in the store. The spinach and cheese and plain cheese pies are the best. They are huge, hot, fresh and delicious and only cost €2 each. One is easily a light meal. If you want something else, get one of their sweet custard... More

Very nice ladies, helped us choose pies, all were 2 euro. We had sausage, mushroom, spinach and feta, and chicken. They were hot and fresh and delicious.

I had the kourou tiropita (cheese pie) and my wife had the spanikopita with feta. They were really good. The spinach pie was the best we had ever eaten anywhere - really.

After seeing the reviews and staying on the same street, we headed there for a morning snack before heading up to Acropolis. I tried the chicken pie which was amazing! The lady there spoken very little English, and judging by the fact that I asked if the pie was warm and she thought I wanted a box, it's best to... More

Staying in Syntagma

Neighbourhood Profile
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
