Created in...1865, this restaurant is an established gastronomical "institution"! But, being a basement, you have to try not to miss it in the busy and noisy Plaka. The intelligent granddaughter of the founder and her charming husband keep it warm and successful. Last night, with...More

We had great dinner in a very typical basement restaurant. All dishes were excellent. The grilled octopus and the grilled calamari were splendid - perfectly cooked! Service was really nice. Desert was offered and the bill very reasonable. Highly recommended.

Both my friend and I dislike being hustled on the street to come into a restaurant, but this is Plaka so we decided to go with the flow. Had a very pleasant and reasonably priced meal with live music in the background. A nice surprise.

We stumbled across this lovely taverna by accident. Live music (sat night) was superb. The food was excellent and fresh. The white wine was delicious. All very reasonably priced.

I usually avoid submitting a review after visiting a place for the first time. So, this was the third time in the specific taverna, which I find quite cosy and authentic although it is located in a very touristic neighbourhood of Athens (Plaka). However, this...More

We eat very well in this restaurant. Nice portions, quality food and a resonable price. Friendly service also. A traditional restaurant.

Bakaliarakia was a typical taverna in Plaka. Good food and fair prices. The presence of the typical waiter whose purpose is grabbing tourists from the street and some clients smoking inside made me lower my judgement that would have otherwise been higher

Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains
the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay
and play. Its attractive features include small
squares, some notable museums and the beautiful
Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to
stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a
pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious
traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a
