One of the BEST restaurants ever!

This restaurant is so beautiful we went back 3 times on our holiday (a restaurant has to be rather remarkable for us to do this). The setting is simply breathtaking - you are literally on the water and the view of the castle and beach is simply stunning, especially at sunset. The food is wonderful. The seafood is exceptional and there is a lot of choice. We were also with two vegans who were able to eat happily with multiple options and the addition of a sushi bar/ menu is excellent. The service also is impeccable and they were so accommodating to us with various requests and ll staff were extremely kind and friendly. If you’re looking for a beautiful place for dinner with an incredible view at a completely reasonable price (€6 - €10 for starters, €8 - €15 for mains) I cannot recommend a better place.

Great view with the right seats

Good seafood and good local wine list. What I ordered was a bit odd and I wouldn’t reorder that, it was pitched as tempura prawns in squid ink risotto and delivered as 5 popcorn shrimp scattered over very inky rice. Our ceviche appetizer and my partner’s grilled tuna were delicious. Great views of fortezza. Not all seats are created equal so if you are seated in the back and feel you are in the alley around cats but you see an empty table up front with the right view, let them know.

So good we went back the next night

Having spent the afternoon and late evening looking around Rethymno, we headed to 7 Thallases after hearing some good reviews about the sunset view. We were greeted by the energetic host who gave us a perfect table looking over the water and facing the dipping sun, and proceeded to take some fantastic couple photos to remember the day. We settled in to the menu and ordered the restaurants own white wine, which was so good we ended up buying a bottle to take home. The menu is primarily seafood, all freshly caught and beautifully presented. The starters looked so appetising that we actually ordered two each-the grilled octopus, squid, prawns and tuna tataki. Each was phenomenal and left us stuffed for our main courses, a scallop and prawn parpadelle with chorizo and cream and a seafood moussakka. The restaurant was buzzing all night and so busy that people were having to be turned away. We went back the next night just to have some more of the starters we had t managed to have the night before. Truly worth a visit for the ambience, the host and his team, the sunset views and of course the delicious food. But be sure to reserve a spot to avoid disappointment.

Romantic setting

My view of this place is mixed. We dined in the restaurant once and also took a takeaway on another night. The food is good, but not great. In comparison to the local tavernas (especially the one next door which has an even better sea view setting!) the food is pretty average. It is also very expensive for what it is. The difference here is the menu tries to be more cutting edge and appeal to an international palette; sushi for example and asian twists in some of the dishes. In my opinion these dishes fell below par and the best food we ate were the Cretan local delicacies such as grilled octopus with fava. The service from staff was also very mixed. When we received a takeaway during the daytime the staff were lovely, but during the evening they basically ignored us and I had to get up and get their attention to order more drinks, dessert and also the bill. Was a bit annoying.

It was good but not good enough.

The portions were small and we ordered pasta with shrimps and there were some shells inside as well which were not cooked well and it was frozen in the middle. It was disgusting and we asked for a discount because we couldn't eat that and they did a 10% discount. The service in general was very good and the waitresses/waiters were polite. Nice environment and nice view even though we were inside. I would go there again but I would not order that dish again. Their tagliata is very tasty and they have fresh fish.

Beautiful view but food not worthy of the price

We went there during our stay near Rethymno because of all the great reviews but were a bit disappointed. True, the view is great, especially when the sea is choppy, and when you can enjoy the sunset but… First, the prices on the menu were not the prices advertised on the website. Secondly, we asked to see the “fresh” lobsters (as usual, to pick on in the aquarium) and 15 min later, they brought us on a plate several halves of (clearly) unfrozen slipper lobsters. Anyway, we ordered our food. As starter : “crayfish with with a crusty crumb” which were just deep fried crayfish and smoked octopus where there were 5 times more hummus than actual octopus, Then pappardelle with scallops and shrimps (drowned in greasy sauce and with bay scallops no larger than my fingernails) and the Fisherman’s spaghetti which were actually not that bad :) We had appetizers on the house : small tasty olives and a strange ketchup/crème fraîche mixture and were offered raki at the end. We did not ask for the “bread” they brought us but were billed for it anyway (one piece was so hard and overcooked that it broke in pieces when I tried to break it in two) Overall, not a bad experience, especially thanks to the view but we expected much more of the food which was equivalent to a small tourist taverna

Thank you for letting us know about this. Your feedback helps us do better. We are looking into this issue and hope to resolve it promptly and accurately. However, our scallops are normal size and the dish with the octopus is "Hummus with octopus" so it makes sense to be more. As for the bread, the very hard bread that you said, is traditional Cretan rusk!

Amazing Restaurant

We enjoyed two evenings with 7 Thalassas in total: Once with "naked chefs" when two employees came to our AirBnB and cooked an amazing meal for us. They brought everything including table setting. Thanks to Aris and George who made our evening unforgettable. The second time they welcomed us in the restaurant in Rethymnon. The service and the dinner was excellent with a good price/performance ratio.

Wow. Beautiful restaurant.

As we were dropped off by the taxi we were wondering where the restaurant was. As we walked down a cobbled side street we were greeted with the most amazing views. Definitely visit here at sunset- it’s stunning. The food was some of the best we tasted on our trip. Highly recommend the seafood linguine and the prawn starter. Everything tasted fresh and was beautifully presented. Great portions too. The owner and staff were fab. Super attentive despite being busy. We were celebrating a birthday and I let them know. When we arrived we had a beautiful round table decorated with flowers and a homemade cake which was delicious. Would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves great food and amazing views. Book ahead though as we couldn’t get in for 3-4 days .

Wow , what a view and stunning food

This was easily our best dinner in Crete . It had been a rather windy day and the sea was wild which just added to the view, looking out across the sea towards the Fortress .The food and service easily matched the view . I had the smoked Octopus which was served under a glass dome filled with wood smoke . Great theatre and the taste was sublime . My partner has the panko shrimps again really good . We followed with the moussaka and monkfish skewers , again excellent . We also enjoyed a really lovely local sauvignon blanc . The service was very professional and friendly .So a top class restaurant , in all honesty in a completely different league to other restaurants we had eaten at and at a price that was very reasonable. It is a little tricky to find so drive slowly and park at the bottom of the lane just past the restaurant on the seaward side .

Treated like royalty from the moment we stepped in

From the moment we entered this restaurant we were greeted by the flamboyant, courteous host who graciously pointed us to one of the best tables in the house, following my advance booking. He was taken with my style and aura (as was I with his!) and undertook a full photo shoot for us before the sun went down. We were seated with a view of the setting sun which formed a beautiful backdrop to the lapping cerulean waves of the Aegean. The food, mostly seafood, was exquisite and we probably the best quality seafood we have eaten. We had the shrimps, ceviche and calamari with pistachio pesto to start -gourmet standard. For dinner we had the fresh tuna, sea bream and sea bass - all completely unique and beautifully presented dishes. The wait staff were extremely attentive and the local cats were a very cute addition. The clientele was classy, not a child in sight, which made for an extremely pleasant evening. Overall, highly deserving of the restaurant’s high rating within Crete and unmistakably the top seafood restaurant in Retyhmno.

Amazing alfresco dinner by the sea

We ate here on our first night in Rethymnon. We ate alfresco right next to the sea with a perfect sunset during dinner. The seafood menu was exceptional. Very fresh, prepared and presented to a very high standard. Some stunning flavours. We had a bottle of house white local wine with the meal that was also very good. The service was first rate. We paid 35 eur per head with 2/3 courses, wine and complementary liqueur. A truly amazing experience.

Wonderful vacation dining experience

We had a family dinner in this restaurant. The apetizers were above expectations and the dinner including the fresh sea bream was just the confirmation of the high level of the cuisine. Our boys also pushed for the desserts so we tried jamaica, crispy Mille Feuille and Profiterole and it was a great finale of the visit!! Finally we found a place where we could eat very good food. Even if we had ordered a lot od food we had eaten everything and to our surprise we did not feel heavy. The cuisine is fresh and light for the Greek standards and it was another positive surprise for us. And last but not least the service was as you could expect in Greece - the owner is staying the whole evening in the restaurant drinking wine with the guests, talking to them and ensuring that everybody is satisfied. Even when my wife got a bit chilly after tremendous sunset she received quilted vest and the shawl to make her warm. The service was very helpful and friendly too. Thank you for this wondeful evening, which was very important for us. We did not tell it during reservation but it was our wedding anniversary. Thanks to such a wonderfull dining experience it was a great finale of our wonderful special day.

A must visit if you are ever in Rethymno!!

We went to this restaurant for the view but got so much more! The owner personally sat us and took some photos for us while periodically checking in throughout our meal. The service staff was attentive and very pleasant. Now the food..... my husband got the sea bass with shrimp and I got the homemade ravioli. The sea bass was tender and juicy and the shrimp melted like butter in your mouth. Absolute must have. I could tell the ravioli was homemade and the sauce had an excellent flavor! So glad we stopped by on our trip. Best food we had on the island during our two week visit!!

A true sea gemstone!

This lovely, breath taking, dalishes seafood restaurant that you would definitely enjoy! 7 Thalasses is one of the best restaurant that knows what is a delishes food is all about. As many people before us we were looking to have a dinner with a nice view of a sunset to be enjoyed over a meal and glass of refreshing sparkling white wine, how we were surprised to find this unique pearl on the sea front known as the 7 seas. The chef is a artist that paints a master piece with his dishes that blows your mind and your taste buds with every bite you take. The staff are friendly and will gladly take a photo of you and your family will sunset sets down behind you to capture those unforgettable memories. We couldn't resist it and had to comeback for second time before we continue with our trip between the islands.

Very enjoyable meal and view!

My wife and I really enjoyed our meal there this week and they take traditional dishes and add a modern flair that helps set the dishes apart from what you find elsewhere. We really enjoyed the grilled octopus with fava beans, but more importantly we really enjoyed the view and top notch service. When next we come to visit we will also look into staying in the Boutique Hotel it belongs to as you can’t get closer to the sea and farther from the noise and people found down in the center. Highly recommended and we loved it. Thanks for squeezing us in! 🥰😎
