Veneto Restaurant is located in Rethymno Old Town since 1997. Veneto's certified Cretan menu consists of dishes based on traditional recipes, created using only fine ingredients. Vegetables are 100% organic and come from local producers. Meat is provided by the nearby farms and fish comes from the Cretan sea. All dishes are cooked using only extra virgin olive oil. It is regarded as one of the top restaurants in the area & it's certified by the 'Agronutritional cooperation of Crete' with the quality label 'CRETAN CUISINE'.

I visit the restaurant 22/07/2020 the waiters were very helpful and Christos (One of the waiters)guide me exactly to the food and wine that I wanted to have. I wasn’t so hungry so I choose two starters and a very good bottle of a Greek viogner from Skouras cuvée larsinos 2017. The price of the wine was 32€ and I surprised because is a very rare edition and 2017 was a very good year for this Greek Viogner and the benefit of the screw cup told me that the cork won’t be damaged. The first starter was a zigouri tonnato. Is a very clever idea to make apaki (smoking prosigure with spices)from an old Cretan goat and combine it with pickles and and Minoan sauce and “garo” The second dish was a very tender sun dried octopus with an excellent flavoring fava (local type of beans from Sxoinousa Island) I recommend this restaurant to any wine lover. Don’t forget to ask for the hidden list or a tour to their wine cellar from the waiters. Something that I would suggest to the owners is the coravin so many people could try some of their great wines by the glass.

I had dinner in Veneto wine rastaurant with my wife and we both stayed amazed by the excelent hospitality of the hotel manager and the great service. The waiters were very careful serving the food, while wearing their masks, according to the local hygiene rules, against the corona-virus. The food was absolutely delighful! I ordered the Wild Goat dish and my veggie wife had the Mushroom Risotto. We also had the Veneto Salad and a bottle of red cretan wine, which we chose from the wine cellar, where we had a nice and brief wine tour. We highly recommend this place. After all, it's a historical place for the town of Rethymno (the building is renewed but it keeps all the characteristics that time and history gave to it) and it is considered as one of the most interesting sighseeings of the Old Town.

Went to the Veneto as a family of 4. The restaurant is located in the heart of the Old town in a fabulous romantic and historic building. We sat on the street to soak up the atmosphere but could have also of sat in the beautiful garden. We had the stuffed vine leaves and zucchini flowers to start followed by the pork fillet, wild goat and veal for mains - all were delicious and inventive cretan dishes cooked to perfection. There wasn't a children's menu but they offer a few options and are very accommodating to cook something your child will like. Our daughter had a lovely chicken pasta carnonara. The Raki at the end of the meal was the best we've had on holiday and is produced by the owner. The staff, especially the waiter were very friendly and knowledgeable about Greek wine and recommended a bottle of local wine which we loved. Afterwards my husband got invited on a free tour of the Veneto's wine cellar where he learnt so much from the wonderful sommelier. All in all a fantastic memorable meal. Highly recommend!

We were very grateful to be given a last minute table in the beautiful secret garden. The setting was lovely and the atmosphere was great. The staff were very nice and attentive and service was quick. We did feel however that the meals were overpriced for the quality, for example I paid €13 for a 'chicken, cherry tomatoes and spinach linguine' and when it arrived it was a very beige dish of pasta with chicken. Nothing else. When I mentioned this, I was given a small tub of cold cherry tomatoes to add in as the chef had 'forgotten'. I also didn't receive any spinach. My husband had trusty moussaka which, despite being very tasty, was actually cold and had to be warmed up. We have had cheaper moussaka elsewhere which was nicer. All in all, nice restaurant and great setting, but you are paying for where you are as opposed to the standard of food.

However we must object to your comment about our linguini dish. This particular dish does not contain spinach. Perhaps you have misunderstood the description although nowhere is there any spinach written in our menu. You were also served mousaka which you mentioned it was cold. However after having more than half of the dish you asked to reheat it. If the dish was indeed cold you would have asked for replacement. A little disappointed...

We were very captivated by the beautiful location in the streets and the beautifully table decorations, and decided to skip our planned dinner and dine at Veneto instead. Although, we ended up being a bit disappointed. The service wasn't great, we had to wait for 45 minutes for the starter and another 30 minutes for the main course. The main course was also not warm when served. By mistake we were charged for 2 bread baskets, which already is absurd that we would have to pay for. The bread wasn't home made it was bought at the grocery store and it was dry from being in the basket for too long. All in all a very mediocre and disappointing experience, and they are harvesting from their brilliant location and beautiful atmosphere only.

Average food. We were underwhelmed with the food, my main calamari was lukewarm and they tried to charge us double for a bread basket when we only ordered one. When we pointed that out the waiter asked if how much of the bread basket we eat in a rude way. The meal was 62 euros and it was more of a 30 euro meal.

The food was actually pretty good, but it was expensive by any measure especially compared to other restaurants in rethymnon. Some of the charges were taking the piss a little in my opinion also. Such as 6 euro for bread. It said 1.50 on the menu but then they charged us per head which it did not say on the menu. 6 euro for water which is standard restaurant rip off tactics. 32 euro for wine. We got a bottle 2 night which was delicious around the corner for 14. But the main piece of grifting was 8 euros for a bowl of plain pasta, no sauce, no oil, no cheese. Just boiled dry spaghetti for a picky 3 year old. 8 euros. Fairly ridiculous

We always take guest's feedback really seriously to support us improving our services and to consistently provide great experiences to our guests. However there were some points in your review that we felt were unfair and misrepresented. Our menu is available to all our guests as well as online for visitors to our site. Our guests can see the prices before ordering and they are always presented with the option of choosing whether they would like bread or not. You had bread for 4 persons. You also mention the price of water which is 3€ per bottle of 1 lt. In your order we can see that you have had two bottles. The wine was selected after seeing our wine list, which is of a wider choice when it comes to price. Finally, the price of most of our spaghetti dishes is 12 euros. Our guests can certainly have a choice of extracting elements of a dish such as cheese or sauce but that does not necessarily mean that the price will be reduced. However, we charged the spaghetti 8€ for this reason. Nevertheless, we would like to thank you again for your visit and your review. A journey through Cretan cuisine

We had a wonderful time dining at the Veneto. The waiter made us discover some wonders of Cretan specialities and wines, with great advice and insight into the island's rich culture. We learned a lot. The cooking style is more "refined" than what can be found in tavernas, with more attention to details and presentation. For us, an absolute must in Rethymno!

THE BEST restaurant in Rethymno (or Greece!)

We had a late evening dinner after we booked into the Veneto Hotel itself (highly recommended!) and little did we know that our first meal was going to be by far the best meal of the whole trip. We had the avocado crostini starters which were an absolute delight followed by the calamari which was the best calamari I have ever had in my life. Staff were very attentive all the way through and both the outside and the courtyard are beautiful settings to have dinner in. Couldn’t recommend this place more, all very reasonably and competitively priced despite the superior quality.

We had the most wonderful time in Veneto Restaurant. We tried the tartar and the steak , and we also ordered some mussels with a bottle of wonderful wine suggested by the owner. Best meal ever. The cheesecake was also a highlight!!! Will come back for more.

Very disappointing

Got the orzo pasta which was overlooked and didn't taste well. When the waiter did come over and asked was everything ok we told him it was not. We were offered a different meal but didn't want to try anything else at that point. The other meal (fish) was good we'll but was the only edible thing on the plate. Nothing else has any flavour. When the orzo pasta was on the bill at the end we question this with the waiter and were met with a lot of resistance and were told that that was not how it worked (I have never asked for something not to be charged before). After a lot of arguing he agreed to take it off the bill. Incredibly disappointing experience.

Dear Sir, The reason why Veneto restaurant is known all over Crete is because we are constantly striving for the best. Sometimes a mistake can be made as it happens in all the restaurants of the world and then we are ready to correct it in any way we can. However NO MISTAKES WERE MADE in your case. You have had almost your entire plate (all the shrimp and two-thirds of the pasta) and all the fish without complaining to the waiter about anything who walked in front of you at least ten times. When at some point at the end of the dinner he asked you if you enjoyed your food, you replied that you did not like it. He offered to change your dish but you refused and stated and that you would not pay for it. Then, assuming that this particular dish is not of your liking and for this reason only we agreed to charge you 1/4 of the price approximately, after we had first served you complimentary fruit and raki and after we had explained that normally we are not obliged to refund your money. You then, with more arrogance and completely ignoring the rules that apply to all restaurants around the civilized world, got up, paid at the counter what YOU thought was the value and left almost running. We are sure that in your homeland you would not even dare to think of asking for your money back in such way. We think your behavior was UNACCEPTABLE and we ask that you retrieve this negative review of our restaurant immediately. Y. Amazing experience

This is my third year visiting Veneto and I realized they have become even better. Last time I visited was August 2019 and I still remember the dishes, but coming back after these two difficult years, I realized Veneto people have exceed my expectations. Risotto was very up to the point, and the combination with Cretan wild mushrooms brought in my mouth the aromas of the island. Service was very professional and the staff was worm and made us feel really welcomed. The owner opened 3 bottles of wine so to find what matches better to my taste, and then I realized that we liked all 3, so we kept them all. Their knowledge in wine is superior and they help you find what you really want.

Our brilliant waiter Cris guided us through a fabulous dinner at Veneto. The food was delicious and the setting was beautiful. We sat in the pretty courtyard, surrounded by hanging plants and a mini fountain. Cris was super helpful, talking us through the food menu and vegetarian options for my girlfriend. He also had expert knowledge of the wines on offer, and helped us pick something that suited our taste, having found other Greek wines too sweet. After dinner we cheers'd a glass of wine as Cris gave us insider tips on other food/drink spots in the town, and for our upcoming day trip to Preveli beach.

Do not hesitate, visit this restaurant!!!!

I really do not know where to start with this restaurant and the beautiful evening we spent here First of all the setting, there are no words to describe how beautiful this restaurant is, so romantic! There are various different areas to eat in, we chose the courtyard, we have never experienced dining like this, it was like being on a film set, this restaurant is set in an old monastery and is just stunning. You can even visit the wine cellar to look at all the bottles of wine! The food…. For starters we had, bread with trio of dips, then after this we had stuffed vine leaves, saganaki cheese croquettes with tomato chutney (this was incredible) and also a lamb pastry with local cheese, all of which were delicious The mains, the had beef filet (beautiful and perfectly cooked) along with homemade gnocchi, ox tail stew and truffle…. This dish has my heart! It was the most delicious thing I have ever tasted and went to the number 1 of my favourite things I have EVER eaten! Our wine was also recommended to us based on what we liked and also the food we ate which we thought was a great touch. Desserts, we had traditional dessert called Mastic Cream and wow this was something I had never tasted before and I am so glad I did now! You MUST try this, we also had lemon tart… Lemon tart is my favourite dessert, years ago I visited a restaurant in the UK that won and attained a AA Rosette for their lemon tart, the lemon tart at Veneto beat this, it’s was beautiful! Last of all the staff working here, the service was IMPECCABLE throughout the whole evening, I am so sorry I didn’t get your names but thank you so much for taking care of us, this was our last evening of our holiday in Crete and you made it such a special evening for us to remember! If we are ever to visit Crete we will certainly be returning back to this restaurant! If you are wanting somewhere to eat in old town Rethymnon this is the place to visit! Do not hesitate just go and eat here!

The best restaurant we visited

We ate here as a family around 1 week ago. I honestly can't imagine a better place to eat in the whole of Rethymnon . We were very disappointed that we left it until our last night to stumble across this restaurant, otherwise we DEFINITELY would have been back. The setting, the staff and the food were all absolutely perfect. We are a family of 8, four of which are children, one under 2 years of age and another with coeliac disease. Neither were an issue at all with a highchair available for the young one and very knowledgeable staff around the food prep needed for coeliac. We were seated in the outdoor courtyard in the back of the restaurant - stunning. The food was outstanding and presented very well. The staff - starting with the restaurant host who convinced us into the restaurant and was so warm and friendly, followed by all of the waiting staff were brilliant. If you don't visit this restaurant, you have missed out! well done Veneto, you don't just rely on location !
