Had a Julbord (Swedish Christmas smörgasbord) and was really dissappointed. The food was nothing special and number of dishes fairly low. It felt like a lowcost alternative but at a business fare. Food quality was average and thats also true for the interior Location is however great!

The outside of this restaurant is nice, and when you walk in, the decor is cozy. The food is unremarkable compared with all the other restaurants we dined at in Stockholm, including museum cafes. After several nights of large meals and beverages, we decided to stick with only entrees and water to drink. It's true that the tap water in... More

I've always wanted to eat here as the location is great and this time we were here for lunch. We selected today's menu, traditional Swedish dishes - fried herring and kalops. The salad bar was fine, except the pickled herring was awfully sweet. Fried herring tasted bad, vinegary. We did not finish this. Kalops was mostly tasteless. Beets cooked to... More

Located on a great little square, this restaurant boast all the local fare. Swedish meatballs, reindeer fillets and so on. The staff and nice and very friendly, English is widely spoken and the price is not going to break the bank. The views are great and the food is good.. it is however a tourist area.. so dont expect the... More

On my first visit to Stockholm, having visited friends in Leksand, I decided to have Swedish meatballs at this restaurant - lovely table overlooking the square, friendly staff and I didn't feel "odd" eating alone at lunchtime. However, I felt extremely odd by 8pm that evening. Developed severe food poisoning with complications and had to fly home early. Can only... More

The positives: heatlamps and blankets on the porch, good location for people watching, very polite and attentive service, good wine list, salad bar with bread selections, water carafe at the table. We each ordered a lunch special and they were perfectly edible (liked the sauce on the salmon) and overall I'd say this is an ok value but if you... More

We had to wait more than 20 minutes... and did still not receive the menue or a glass of water. Unfortunately we cannot jugde the food. Our advice: avoid the crowded places - there are smaller and nicer places in the neighbourhood.

On a summer's night, sitting on the outdoor deck on the square, this is the life! This restaurant is ideally located opposite the Nobel Museum in Old Town. The menu is varied and the portions are large and well prepared and plated. The service was attentive and friendly. The Swedish meatballs were outstanding!

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
