We stopped at Monks as part of a brewery tour so we were in a room downstairs. It was pretty cool. We had to wait for our beer flights to be prepared so we tried to order a beer from the small bar. It took us over 20 minutes. Which I guess is par for the course but you can... More

We went to Monks Porter House as part of a pub tour and stayed for dinner. Great service and welcoming staff. Some very good beers. We had a burger and the porter steak - both delicious meals. We stayed there for few hours tasting the different beers. Was good fun!

From the outside, the building looks like an ordinary office building in the Gamla Stan area of old Stockholm. Find the right door (this is a bit of a challenge, as 2-3 restaurants share the entrances) and you descend into the basement to this good-looking pub/restaurant. The Dining room is broken up into smaller seating areas with brick and old... More

I came here for the beer and was disappointed. They are supposed to have dozens of taps, but when I asked for a beer list they said they don't keep one because the taps change so frequently. How then do I know what to order? The bartender suggested I tell him what I like. Sorry, that doesn't work for me.... More

With a good atmosphere, rather large selection of beer (both on tap and bottlled) combined with a small but generally well cooked menu, this place make for some good evening with friends. Pros: - Friendly staff with a good knowledge about beers - Excellent selection of bottled and draft beer - Fantastic atmosphere - Tasty food, ask for the "veckans... More

Went here looking for good food based on the Tripadvisor reviews I read yesterday. The bar tender informed us that they do not have a restaurant and only serve drinks, no food. Maybe it was his first day? So, we had no food.

The place has several areas to dine. We mostly end up in the nice basement with a castle like atmosphere. There is a decent variety of different beers to choose from that taste good and the menu includes an ok selection of foods so everyone should find something. We tend to eat moules frites that normally are good. Last time... More

The resturant in the cellar has hearty food with a penchant for meat (grilled, sausages). There have some vegetarian and seafood dishes like moules frites but not as big selection. Well prepared food, but not luxury restaurant level. Like all Monks places in Stockholm, you mainly come for the beer though. They have a large selection, the one in Gamla... More

I was led here by a fellow who lives in Stockholm and highly recommended the place. I couldn't have been more please. Honestly what wasn't to love about Monks? Fresh brewed beers on tap, house made sausages! They even had little meat sticks to munch on while you walk home. I had a sausage platter that advertised Chorizo flavored sausage.... More

We stopped into Monks Porter House to have a beer, having heard that they offer a good selection from their own brewery. The bar is in the basement of the building, and it's very atmospheric. The walls are brick, and the bar is divided into lots of chambers with flickering candlelight and lanterns on the walls. It was an off-time... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
