We had a late lunch on Saturday at around 3pm with a friend of mine. Although the restaurant looks good and beautifully furnished, the way we were welcome by the head waiter (a lady) is unacceptable and makes the overall experience not as good as...More

My husband and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary here while visiting Stockholm. We had been told that it is a good restaurant for Swedish specialties and we were not disappointed. I had the baked/roasted cabbage and it was delicious. I also had Autumn Delight...More

I stopped here while wandering Gamla Stan. The limited menu and interior hooked me. I sat at the bar and ordered the fois gras and a glass of champagne for lunch. The fois gras is the best I’ve had. I wasn’t very hungry so it...More

We had a business dinner with traditional Swedish food (heerings, minced meat in cabbage etc). All very tasty. Surroundings are really nice and historical. Service was good and to the point.

How cool is it to eat in a restaurant that opened in 1722? We thought, very. We stopped in here after a very long day of walking around Gamla Stan. The Carlsberg was cold and very tasty. The food was actually quite good and was...More

The classic 3 course is what people visit here for. Starter. Dish called SOS which is pickled herring that can go wrong in many ways but made perfectly here. Mains. Meatball dish. So much better than Ikea! Dessert. Vanilla with biscuits. Not all that great.

This, the oldest restaurant in Stockholm, and supposedly the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the same location in the world is Nordic cuisine at its finest. The atmosphere is warm and inviting - tavern like. Two nice street level dining rooms (we ate in one)...More

Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home
to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central
island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small
island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous
Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit
touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting:
take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and
through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest)

At Den Gyldene Freden we have served authentic Nordic home cooking since the opening in 1722. Famous cultural personalities, tourists and local regulars visit our historic facilities in Gamla Stan to enjoy the fine food and the genuine atmosphere - for everyday or special occasions. We, the people who work at Den Gyldene Freden are very proud of our heritage and passionate about refining classic courses into modern cooking. Our philosophy is based on the idea that one must make time to cook - and eat - fine food. We make room for international influences, but our base is the Nordic kitchen interpreted in our own personal manner, with great respect for flora and fauna.
