This café was recommended to me. It is a small place rather dimly lit. There is only one window which doubles as the take out counter. The food is served in old style pottery. The service is slow. The food was acceptable, but not great. Paying took a very lengthy time as they only have on credit card reader and... More

Absolute favorite cafe!! The white hot chocolate the trip alone! Great spot for breakfast/brunch, it has such a picturesque setting and the architecture is lovely. Lots of history surrounding this little square and in the heart of Stockholm.

Grabbed hot chocolate and a cinnamon roll from the take away window. Hot chocolate was delicious! I could of skipped the cinnamon roll, it wasn't super fresh but still ok.

Really nice hot chocolate -alouthgh I've had better -in a cosy cafe, relaxed ambience. Although the queues were long for the take away, we managed to get seated inside quite quickly, staff were attentive and in no rush to see you leave. The valrhona chocolate ball was especially yummy! It was a chocolatey explosion in my mouth! My husbands cinnamon... More

This place was the cutest little coffee shop in Gamla Stan! We went here twice because we loved it so much and it was perfect on a wintery, cold day. It is very small, but we had no problem finding a seat each time. The first time we got the regular hot chocolate that they serve in a bowl and... More

We had lunch at Chokladkoppen and it was really good. The pies were served with a salad and the chai latte tasted almost like the one we got served in an Indian home. They had some really good-looking cakes as well. Be aware that the cafe is not handicap/ baby stroller friendly.

If you're in Gamla stan you seriously have to pay this little place a visit. Their cinnamon buns are huge and delicious. Cozy little interior, good music and friendly staff.

We arrived on a cold winters day, for a hot chocolate and cake both of which were amazing. The hot chocolate was a bowl of rich hot chocolate with cream, the chocolate bomb was that indeed rich enough for 2 to share. on the inside of the cafe it seemed sparsely decorated and even dirty. There service was good. I... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
