We decided to have dinner here because it was next door to our flat and were able to enjoy a fine dinner. We chose to try some Finnish dishes: I had a plate of meatballs that were served with gherkins, beetroot and mashed potatoes with a pint of lager. The food was good, it arrived quickly and the waitress was... More

I was here the first time, although this restaurant has been here for ever. Actually it was founded early thirties as name as Liisanbaari. The name and interior was changed in the year 1952 and it has been as it was since then. A real classic. We were there at the lunch time and had only a dish called Oskarinleipä.... More

We had two reindeer dishes (the sautéed reindeer and the reindeer tenderloin), which were absolutely delicious. The homemade Blueberry pie was supreme. Very friendly bit unobtrusive service, too.

I've been there on advice of some finnish friends, and I was not disappointed. Traditional food served in a typical finnish pub, very good meal and excellent service.

I have tried this restaurant a few times and can guarantee that each time I enjoyed it. I do not like the bar at the entrance - which is a recent innovation - but the place is otherwise elegant, typically Finnish and offers tasty food that gives a good idea of Finnish cuisine. Waiters are nice and efficient.

A pub style restaurant with traditional deco, cosy atmosphere, comfort food, blueberry pie and chocolate desserts are quite special.

While on business trip for some days, I usually go this place for a traditional Finnish meal. No extravaganza, the usual suspects well made. not to be missed.

We went with a group of 14. They sat us at 2 tables (8 and 6). The service was excruciatingly slow. Only water given, and no drink order taken for over 30 minutes. Took about 45 between appetizers and main course. We had been pre-warned we had to order off the group menu, and then we found that exceptions had... More

I've been to this nostalgic restaurant a couple of times now and I have no complaints. The food is traditional finnish food with a few international additions to the menu. Last time I had chicken with dark boletus sauce and garlic potatoes (asked for them instead of beetroot-barley-mix), it was simple and delicious! Service is friendly and there are obviously... More

The story of Kolme Kruunua ('three crowns') began in 1952, when restaurateur Irja Örn (1910-1992) together with her husband decided to renovate their café and bar Liisan Baari and turn it into a restaurant. Many still feel that the restaurant serves the very best meatballs, "Pyttipannu" ('hash') and fried Baltic herrings in the city. The well-preserved interior of Kolme Kruunua was designed by artist Emil Ruokolainen (1895-1968), who was a renowned decorative painter in his time. His artwork can be found, for instance, in several Finnish schools and churches. In the restaurant, his craftsmanship can especially be seen in the beautifully polished mirror hanging on the back wall. The glass paintings decorating the windows of Kolme Kruunua were designed and painted by artist Fritz Hilbert (1898-1981), who later became the artistic director of the S. Wuorio decorative painting company. Kolme Kruunua is one of the few restaurants in Helsinki where the demographic of the customers ranges from twentysomethings to over 80-year-olds. Some of the elder customers who remember their fathers spending time at the restaurant, now, in their twilight years, enjoy the atmosphere of the place themselves. In mid-1990s, the old wine bar was replaced with a bar counter, but otherwise the original interior with its wood paneling, old lamps, glass paintings and glass decorations has been preserved.
