We visited as a group of 4 for the Christmas Day lunch. The restaurant had recently been taken over by Declan and his team. The service was well organised throughout and all meals were served in a timely fashion despite everyone being seated at the same time. We were greeted with a glass of prosecco and then canapes were brought to the table. The canapes were excellent. These were followed by an equally delicious, starter, main course and dessert. The choice of wine was limited to house red, white and rose. However it is sourced from the local wine region of Jumilla. The red is a delicious Monastrell and the white a Sauvigion blanc both very good value at euro15. During the meal I asked for a sherry to toast my late parents, a bit of an old fashioned drink these days, which was unfortunately unavailable. Declan then went and sourced a Cherry B, which did the trick. Thank you to Declan, the chef and the excellent team who looked after us so well making our Christmas Day lunch very special.

Discovered the Portobello Kitchen today. Oh my goodness what a beautiful meal we had. We ate off the €12.95 early bird lunch menu and every course was delectable served to us by the lovely Alan who looked after us very well indeed. Well worth a visit and well worth your support during these difficult times. X

Excellent meal last night at Portobello Kitchen. We both enjoyed the food and the service, Great deal on at present, we received a voucher to the value of the meal to use Jan - March so basically half price. Restaurant looking fab and we will definitely be back.

We rang The Portabello restaurant to make a reservation, we were asked if we wanted a private booth of which would cost £75 per head. A little too expensive for 2 adults and 3 children so I said we were ok with a normal table. The lady on the phone told us the food was a better standard at the private booth. I had no idea how poor the regular standard of the normal tables was to be! It is hard to find a good quality children’s meal, although the ones served to my children were inedible. The spaghetti had a sour taste and I’m 100% sure the meat was not beef mince. Myself and my husband opted for the fillet steak medallions. It wasn’t a fillet steak we were served... along with mushy overcooked vegetables, and dauphinois potatoes which had a skin on them showing they were days old. Myself and my children didn’t eat our meals, my husband did, although he has a stomach like lead. We paid our bill and left promptly and without doubt will never be back in this restaurant. We have been coming to Spain for 6 years and it is by far the worst restaurant we have been to. The only good thing I can say is the girl who served us was very polite, just unfortunate the food didn’t match up to the standard of her service.

Menu stated vegetarian roast option. When we asked what it was (expecting nut roast or similar) we were told normal roast dinner without the meat 🤷‍♀️ really! Roast dinner was ok but nothing special, gravy had a really weird taste to it. Apple crumble & custard was not what I expected. Crumble tasted just like crushed up ginger biscuits and custard was so watery. Be careful when ordering wine they add a €5 corkage charge to the price of each bottle of wine. It does state that on the bottom of wine list in tiny writing. Staff were ok. Wouldn't go again though and wouldn't recommend it.

Awful Sunday lunch; from the service; to the food; to the wonky plates, it was probably the worst restaurant we have been to. The two young staff are really out of their depth in trying to serve people at the moment, regularly coming to the table without their masks correctly covering their face. Starters were good. Main meal plates weren’t flat, so every time you tried to cut meat etc. The plate moved! Not just mine, but all four plates. The lamb was tough as if it had been microwaved, I had beer and asked for horseradish which had the consistency of water. On my beef plate was a large jug of gravy...... for the table, despite their being a lamb and chicken dish! Wouldn’t be that hard to get separate gravy. Staff had no idea what to do when a cockroach landed on a customer at the next table.... I called the staff over, instead of going to the customer and consoling her, she walked away. Awful place, won’t go back.

Lengthy review please continue! Our friends had a birthday meal here last year and left with vouchers of 130euros to return! we dined as a group of four, booked to eat at 7.00pm, we waited an hour and a half for the starter(only 2 of us having a starter) which arrived when prompted more than twice, firstly king prawns, there were 5, very sandy in a little jous with 2 slices of dry bread!, the pork belly was not crispy as you would expect, my freind was so disappointed, we saw one being returned fron the table opposite. 3 sirloins were ordered, 2 well and 1 medium rare, the medium rare was medium and ha a lot of gristle as seen in the picture, the others were taken home for the dogs as over and dry! The risotto was bitter to taste as had been smothered in lemon juice, this was also sent back uneaten. 3 hours wasted here, when I commented on the prawns the lady from Birmingham(I'm assuming the Manageress) told me the other table had prawns but did not complain and entered into confrontation as I was complaining, Black Country hospitality left in the Uk I think! There was no Portobello mushroom filled with fried onions only a button mushroom filled with olive oil and vinegar, vile on the plate to be fair! We left feeling so disappointed, they kept the vouchers and were glad to see us leaving as there were a couple of tables near us who could hear our discontent. Would not recommend going here to anyone, waste of time and money with poor customer service and even poorer cuisine to boot!

We booked our table for 19:30 because we had young children, one 7 years old and one 2. Although the restaurant was not especially busy it was 21:00 before our main course was served, only 2 of our party has starters. The food was acceptable but the delay took away any pleasure from the meal. There was no warning that the food would be delayed so long, no offer of the children’s’ meals being served early - nothing. When we spoke to the waiting staff about our disappointment she simply said “ you can see how it is”. This was a Sunday evening, out of season - I hate to think what the delay would have been in August.

Enjoyed a relaxing Sunday lunch from the restaurants extensive menu. The starter of slowly braised chorizo just melted in your mouth and we followed this with perfectly cooked roast lamb (note there is a €2 supplement for this). Plenty of the usual Sunday roast accompaniments, large Yorkshire and a generous ladle of gravy made for an excellent main course. Having enjoyed the first two courses we couldn’t resist finishing it all off with apple crumble and chocolate orange cheesecake. Great food, good service, will definitely be back.

My wife and I went to The Portobello Kitchen in Villamartin Plaza last night and it was absolutely superb. We each had the set menu for 22.95€ We had starters of Garlic Prawns and Garlic Mushrooms with Crusty Bread, both were superb and red hot. The Mains of Rump Steak (perfectly cooked, medium rare), Chips (proper) and and Pan Fried Lambs Liver, Bubble and Squeak, Bacon Lardons were to die for. We finished off with Apple Crumble and Custard which was absolutely gorgeous. A nice bottle of Rose Wine (not the cheap house), a bottle of water and a Brandy to finish the meal came to the grand total of 70€ (for nowt) The service was second to none, the young girl who served us was very attentive, knowledgeable and made us feel really welcome. She was definitely worth the great tip we left. Portobello had a great atmosphere, people were having a great time without being too loud. It’s been difficult for restaurants and the hospitality industry over the last couple of years and it’s great to see a superb restaurant come out the other side fighting fit. We hadn’t been for a few years and we were pleasantly surprised after reading some poor reviews. As I always say, don’t trust what others say, try it yourself and I’m really pleased we went back. Definitely one of our go to places when we return. If you haven’t been definitely give it a try.

So disappointed with this restaurant. Some meals in our party were good but the meal was spoiled because we could not believe the supplements added to our bill totalling over 20 euros and we could not work out what they were all for. Over a euro charged for mayonnaise. Also 5.90 for a few sweet potato slices. We could not believe our ears when the waitress informed us of the supplements for items that should be given with the meal especially when you are paying 250 euros for a meal for 5 adults and 3 children. The glass of house wine was undrinkable but it was taken off the bill at our insistence. Must say though that the waitress was excellent.

We booked a table for Sunday at 7pm via facebook, they confirmed the table. We arrived on time to be told that they had no reservation for us but we could still be seated. We ordered 2 x garlic creamy mushrooms with bread and 4 Sunday lunches. We had to wait 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive and our starters arrived almost an hour later. The mushrooms could only be described as basic prison food, absolutely disgusting! No garlic as promised on the menu and barely warm. We both left these and the waiter didn’t even question it! Our Sunday lunch then arrived, again, not warm and the beef extremely well done despite the waiter asking if we’d like or medium or well. The gravy arrived 10 minutes after the Sunday lunch! We then discovered lumps of plastic wrapping in the mashed potatoes. We immediately told the waitress who didn’t really offer any form of apology, so we simply told them we were leaving so paid for the drinks and left! Such a shame as this place could be a gold mine in the right hands! I guess it made sense as to why they were so quiet in comparison to other places on the plaza! This is one to avoid for sure!

As a family of 6 we visited The Portobello after a local recommendation. Organising a table was a pleasure with the manager calling us back to confirm a time. Some of the things we had were lovely. Pasta carbonara, King steak, mussels for example. But much of the rest was a bit disappointing. Buffalo Chicken wings were nothing of the sort in a sweet chili and honey glaze! Tasty but not as advertised unfortunately. Chicken breast edible but very dry and chorizo mash an over promise with some drops of chorizo oil on a dollop of mash? Mushroom starter was a like a blob of cheese and breadcrumbs. Sea bass also overcooked. Mojitos tastes like mocktails. We didn’t raise a complaint until dessert and sent back a lemon cheesecake with a base that was soggy and watery and bread and butter pudding that was inedible and these were removed. It’s just few weeks back after lockdown and also new ownership of the restaurant and so we feel we should give the benefit of the doubt as I am sure it will improve.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, glitzy, glamorous and elegant. Good choice on the set menu but found the food was average. Bit concerned re the Covid19 protocol. The waitress did not wear her mask behind the bar and was constantly touching it when she did serve. It was possible to see into the kitchen and neither chef/helper wore their mask over their nose and mouth. There were cruets on the table rather than individual sachets of salt and pepper and a table of 4 were shown in without a request they sanitised their hands. In these difficult times it is important we all stay safe and for these reasons we would not return.
