About
Kaffihornid - About us Kaffi Hornid brings the best local ingredients to the table right on Hofn's main road sits Kaffi Hornid, where you can find seafood brought straight from sea to the table and a tempting selection of dishes from filling plates of lamb to salads topped with chicken or lobster. Soup is served daily with homemade bread and a salad bar is open for guests who want a small but filling lunch. The menu is large, with sea food and local specialities like lamb and beef featuring prominently, although vegetarians are not left out as a dish of pan-fried chickpea cutlets remains one of the more popular dishes. This restaurant and cafe, with airy cathedral ceilings and ample seating for guests has been successful since opening in 1999, alternating as a restaurant, cafe and bar. Kaffi Hornid's owners, husband and wife Ingolfur Einarsson and Kristin Oladottir, have made good use of Hofn's prized local food: the langoustine. Found just off Hofn' s coast and widely celebrated as a town delicacy, the lobster-like creature known as langoustine features prominently in Kaffi Hornid's menu with an entire section devoted to dishes showcasing the succulent shellfish in every price range. The langoustine is distinguished from lobster because it is much smaller and its meat is said to be sweeter. While plentiful in Europe anwaters, langoustines, better known as scampi, are scarcely found in North America and whenever served at restaurants they have been shipped frozen because their delicate meat does not survive the journey. Fortunately for Hofn and Kaffi Hornid the langoustines are freshly caught each day for visitors to taste. Fresh fish, also caught daily, lamb and beef from nearby farms and chicken dishes round out the menu. Pizzas are made to order with a special langoustine pizza for guests who want to try a twist on toppings. Icecream made at Arbaer, a dairy farm a few kilometres from Kaffi Hornid, tantalises visitors with homemade flavours like chocolate licoric.

We came in during dinner time, and received a warm welcome from their staff. The interior was mostly wooden which provided a cozy atmosphere. I started the meal off with their lobster soup, and then had the lamb as main, serving size was decent, and their food was well-prepared. Overall it was a very delightful experience for our last night of the trip. Would love to go back one day.

My husband and I were looking for a lunch spot in town (in low season). This was the only place open for lunch (not dinner). I had the lobster salad with garlic lobster, feta, tomatoes and red bell peppers; my husband had the lobster tempura. Both were fantastic! Great service and cute restaurant!

There weren't a lot of restaurants to choose from while we were in Hofn so we stumbled upon Kaffi. It was full and we have to wait for an available table. The bartender or waiter (who has Filipino ancestry) served us drinks at the bar while waiting for our table. The food was delicious - lobster (as main), lobster pasta and burgers. The place looks cozy and great.

Delicious lobster pasta, especially if you ask for extra ruccola and parmezan and black pepper on top 😉 White wine not so good. Staff friendly, wearing masks, tables far away from each other, also outside seating. Menu online is more clear than printed laminated version on table. Central location. Mid-range prices.

Stumbled upon this place accidentally and turned out to be a great find! The owner Johanna is super friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. The lobster pasta was rich and creamy and paired wonderfully with the toasted garlic bread and was presented very well. The restroom is very clean and the decor is beautiful and cozy.

Tonight, we dined at Kaffi Hornid after a recommendation from our Zodiac boat pilot during our glacier lagoon tour. His suggestion was spot on as we really enjoyed our food and mixing with the local crowd at this friendly eatery. Before traveling to Iceland, we had hoped to return to Humarhöfn, another local hotspot for Icelandic lobsters. Sadly, Humarhöfn was closed; however, Kaffi Hornid satiated my craving for those lovely langoustines. We ordered two plates of the lobsters and the portion was generous, along with a green garden salad, potatoes and garlicky butter. They offer three beers on draft: Boli, Tuborg Classic, and Gull. Any of these pair excellently with the lobsters. For dessert, we tried the kleinur, an Icelandic pastry like a cake donut with lots of cardamom and powdered sugar. They served this with perfectly ripe, fresh strawberries, blueberries, cream, and a thick caramel that worked great with the tart fruits. One thing we really enjoyed was the clientele. It was a Saturday night in this small town, and the locals showed up to eat well, have fun, and socialize. We saw one group of twenty somethings who played some sort of dice game while they drank their beers. They were lively and a lot of fun to watch and I felt like I had a window into what it must be like to live here. The owner and staff were very friendly and we felt welcome. If I find myself in Höfn in the future, I will return.

I travel extensively. Occasionally I find a restaurant that feels like my favorite restaurants at home — great food, excellent, friendly service and a genuinely warm welcome — while being thoroughly of the country I am visiting. That's what I found today at Kaffi Horniđ in Höfn, Iceland, and I am grateful.

Unfortunately we were not able to eat here even though we were looking forward due to all the good reviews we read. All restaurantes in Hofen were fully booked. We went here to see if they had availability. The guy at the entrance immediately told us they were fully booked for the rest of the evening even though there was space available. Important to mention that in the morning we tried to make a reservation and they told us they did not take reservation. We asked how could they be fully booked if there were still tables available, and he told us that they were waiting for 2 large groups of tourists which for us made no sense as, they do not take reservation. We asked how could they take no reservations but reserve for tourist groups to which we got no answer. In any business you are supposed to solve problem, not create them. Anyway, we hope you guys have more luck than us and get treated nicer here.

The food is really great, lobster (the Iceland lobster, which is more a langouste) in a lot of variations, as well as other food. The lobster soup is excellent (and huge, although it's on the Starter menu). The surf and turf was a little unexpected, it came in form of a burger with lobster in fried panade, but it was great nevertheless. The service, though, was not so great. My wife had two starters as main dish (salad in addition) and I had the burger. I explicitly mentioned this to the waitress when ordering to please bring everything together. Needless to say that it didn't work out. Halfway through my wife's meal I asked about my dish, and the guy was surprised and told me, he will take care of it. 10 more minutes later my wife was finished, still no food. The girl I ordered with did not even show up the whole time to check. In fact, no one did. So I had to walk up to the counter and had to ask again. After which it took some more time... Obviously, if you are sitting in a cozy corner not in sight, you will be forgotten, and starters are irrevocably starters, even if you wish to have them as a main dish. I don't mind waiting for my food, even when others already have theirs, but this was not acceptable. Simply poor service and attention to guests. We wanted to go there again, but there are enough other options. This is the more disappointing since as a frequent Iceland traveller I always had good experiences.

So glad we made the slight detour to Hofn to have dinner at this great little restaurant. Our entire group was happy with their meals. I had the reindeer burger, sorry Rudolph, but it was juicy and worth it, as were the fries. Others had the lobster pizza, the lobster burger and the lobster salad, seemed to be a theme I went away from but was just as happy. They have nice clean restrooms, easy to park in lot, right by the Hofn swimming pool. Service was great for Iceland, prices were very reasonable for what we ordered. Enjoyed that the group could pay separately on our way out.

Visited with two friends early evening (5pm) when only 3 or 4 other tables were occupied as had previously visited later and unable to get a table (decided against 40+ min wait). Glad we didn’t wait then and wish we hadn’t revisited! Our waiter was extremely grumpy, really felt like he’d rather we weren’t there. I ordered fish and chips and got what I thought was a children’s portion (about the size of 2 fish fingers). And to top it off there was a couple and their toddler facetiming loudly at another table!!

Lovely place – atmosphere, service (Rado was our waiter who gave us very good recommendations) and most importantly, the food! The restaurant has all the local favourites: lobster, salmon, other fish, lamb and more... The place is mostly wooden, so it feels very cozy. Would love to come again, thank you!

We came here during the middle of COVID 19, so the opening hours had changed. We originally wanted to have lunch here, but they closed exactly as we were pulling up, so we decided to drive to Djupivogur and have dinner on the way back instead. It is a bit expensive, as most places outside of the Reykjavik area are, but the portions make up for this! My husband had a huge burger, which he could barely finish. I chose the pizza, which was a perfect personal size. I would go back next time we are in this cute little town.

We checked all the other restaurants in town and they were all closed or "closing" at 8.30 but Johanna had no problem to fit us in. The food was excellent. The fish and lobster tasty and fresh. We were only in Hofn one night, otherwise we would he happy to come back to try out more dishes.
