Delicious food, reasonable prices, great location with nice sunny terrace looking out on the harbour. Fish soup very tasty, grilled gambas nice! The main dish with cod, pesto and a special kind of risotto was absolutely delicious, one of my top favorites in Iceland in 2 weeks!! The fish burger lacked a crispy crust and the cayun spices were a bit too much, but the sweet potato fries (ask for it instead of French fries) with chilly mayo are TO DIE FOR! We spent about ISK 13K (EUR 80) for 2-course dinner for two including few drinks. Easy to park at harbour. Staff could pay a little bit more personal attention to guests, but we found this an overall "thing" in Iceland.

We booked a table in order to have a spot for lunch following our whale watching excursion. The nice staff even saved the “best table” for us, a little two-topper by the window for us. (Thanks Mikki!)
This place oozes charm with the warm honeyed wood interior and interesting sailing artifacts. The menu is fairly simple with pizza, some starters and classic Icelandic dishes like cod. Since we were trying to warm up we started with two steaming hot chocolates drowning in whipped cream and colored with a touch of strawberry syrup syrup-delicious. To eat we chose the chicken nachos-not too close to anything you’ve had in the US but I liked the salty chips. The fish soup was rich and flavored with turmeric and saffron with chunks of seafood and a couple of small pieces of bread and was a hearty warm up.
There aren’t too many dining spots in Husavik but this one is a nice spot for a bite to eat.

Unfortunately it was raining heavily when we visited Husavik so we decided to go for lunch here, and were able to get a table without needing to book. Cosy, wooden decor inside and a fairly extensive menu with Icelandic options such as fish soup and as well as burgers, pizza etc. Pizza cost around 2200 ISK (£12.60) which is fairly similar to standard UK prices. Food was nothing special but perfectly enjoyable and not bad value given the relative lack of alternative options in the nearby area.

Family trip. Server who greeted us started to argue about how many people we booked a table for. We are 7 somehow they thought we where 8. Don't see how it matters. Had a really friendly waiter top guy, did his best. Food came quickly and was over all okey. Ordered a pizza with three toppings got it with just two toppings and a quick "we didn't have what you wanted"... Then why did you make it?? Anyway got to payment and the order was incorrect we commented on it and the response from the server (same one who greeted us) was to argue and say that she didn't take our order. That's fine just fix it. The result was that we as where not charged for a beer but when we looked it over the difference was more that 2500 isk and that is one hell of an expensive beer, even in Iceland. We didn't go back to fix that. Won't be returning.

Being one of the oldest cafes of Husavik, they retain the charm and decor with good quality food. Service was good, we ordered Pizza and sweet potato fries and brownie with ice cream. All were very tasty and quick service except the dessert service. But that time gap gave us enough time to chat and relax, observe the ambience. For a Husavik size of town, the pricing was on higher side. Since you are a tourists and look for traditional old cafes, you normally don’t mind that price for one meal:).
Its overall a must try restaurant if you are in Husavik.

Well I was lucky, I must have just chanced on it at the right time, as I walked in and got a small table straight away, 2.15 pm on a weekday.
Directly overlooking the harbour, with views to the far icy tipped mountains. There's seating outside and in. Nice lot of wood, tables, floor, panelling, reminds of an upmarket, unspoilt UK country pub.
Menu has some nice dishes, I had the cod with creamy risotto, and some interesting puree. 3890 isk, just under £24. Quite tasty but the risotto was a bit cold. They also serve pizzas and burgers and a range of beers, so you can just have a drink.
Service was busy, but friendly and professional.

Just sensational experience. The location is right on the waterfront, few minutes stroll from Foss hotel, past the wee wooden church and then just down the stairs and jaja ding dong you are there with all the boats and Gamli Baukur in its nice old fashioned timber house. The restaurant was flat out busy so no seating available inside however the staff offered us outside seating with two blankets each.. Just perfect seating with amazing view over the harbour. The menu has a nice range of choices, we had Icelandic lamb chops support with Kiwi red wine, totally great combination. We were well looked after by the staff, so attentive and customer focused although super busy. Thank you all.

The restaurant is a gem, the food is mid range expensive for Iceland and the cooks prepare some absolutely delicious meals that rivalled some of the most expensive restaurant in Reykjavik. Over 2 nights we tried most of the main course dishes and they are all fantastic. The Atlantic Char being my favourite.
The weather in Husavik was terrible during our visit however Gamli Baukur provides welcome relief from such things. The interior of the restaurant is completely wood panelled with a nautical theme showing the history of Husavik and its history with fishing. There is seating inside for about 20 tables and in the summer months there is additional seating outside on the decking overlooking the marina.
Gamli Baukur also sells coffee and cakes and is a great place to stop and either recharge or escape the weather. The waitresses are also delightful and a credit to the restaurant. Nothing is too much for them and they will go above and beyond all expectations.
I really enjoyed dining at Ganli Baukur so much that I had dinner there both nights I was in Husavik. Do yourself a favour and visit.

Gamli Baukur is a beautiful old wooden building on the sea front with a great view of the ocean, mountains and whale watching boats.
Contrary to many other posts, I can say that the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food on the other hand was a big disappointment. I had the cod which was served on a bed of barley risotto. The fish was overcooked and tasteless as was the risotto and I found the combination of barley, pesto, very sweet pureed sweet potato and some green stuff to be a bit unusual and of no compliment to the fish. Worst of all the meal was stone cold. Definitely not a place I will visit again.

AVOID….lacklustre service mediocre burger and terrible fish soup which was supposed to come with bread. We received two slivers of overly salted bread which was not more than a mouth full. Only asked how the meal was at paying and were ignored when I brought it up. Hopefully the fish soup will stay down! Worst meal in Iceland so far and I’ve been hear nearly two weeks

Firstly as a pub for drinks it’s an excellent location in the harbour which we used every day. We ate in the restaurant on one occasion and I was surprised how little fish was on the menu given its a fishing harbour. I had fish soup which was nice although like warm followed by fish burger which was ok. My friends had fish of the day which they said was ok. My original score was going to be 3* but after staying 3 nights in Husavik I quickly realised the food options are not great. As a result I would recommend this as the only place worth eating at. Unfortunately despite drinking here for several hours the next day, they couldn’t fit us in for dinner. Everything shuts early in this town.

Booked a table and when we arrived we met a lovely waitress and asked her if we could sit outside in the sun. She said it was no problem, we could just pick a table anywhere outside but we’d have to take menus with us outside. So we did and outside we found two small tables and put them together to fit us since we were a group of 5.
We looked at the menus and decided what we wanted and then two of us went to the bathroom. While two of us were there, another waitress arrived at our table and scolded us for putting the tables together. We explained that we were in fact a group of 5 not just 3 and wouldn’t have sat comfortably at just one small table. She said it didn’t matter, we should’ve asked first and then left without taking our order (?!).
I went then inside when the rest of our party came back and we decided we still wanted to order rather than just leave because we’d ate here before (in 2021) and loved the food plus we wanted to sit and eat outside in the sun, a rare occurrence in Iceland. I found the waitress we’d met at our arrival, asked if someone could take our order and she said she could. I apologised to her for moving the tables together, we’d thought it to be okay ‘cause we were a too large group for just one table. She told us not to worry, was very nice and took our order.
After this the service was great, just excellent there were two different waitresses that brought us the food and drinks. So we started feeling better about our experience so far.
Then the food arrived. We ordered two kids burgers which they deemed fine but we also ordered two adult burgers that were of poor quality compared to the price. We also ordered a seafood soup which was bland.
The rude waitress never came to our table again or apologised even though she serviced tables around us. The quality of food was poor considering the price of it and a disappointment from our experience when we visited back in June 2021.
The two stars were earned by the nice waitresses. Thank you.
But we should’ve just left to begin with…

We stopped for lunch here one day and I ate the lamb steak. It was soo very tasty and helpfully the restaurant provided children sized portions which was a bonus. The restaurant had a lovely relaxed feel about it.

We decided to splurge and go eat at this restaurant which is right on the harbor front. The interior was very nicely designed. Of course, we had to order the fish--arctic char since it's hard to find in the USA. We had good service and it's great that tipping isn't customary since it does help to make the final bill less painful on our budget.

We just ate here after a stop at the geospa. My fish soup had a great flavor but it was missing FISH! I had a few tiny little pieces and that was it. It was a huge disappointment especially for 28 dollars. Our sweet potato fries were delicious and the seafood salad was small with again, little seafood.
Overall, way too expensive for what we got.
The decor was really nice though.
