spacious restaurant, which often sees the stands or also hosts live music, where you can eat typical Icelandic dishes such as lobster soup, salmon and halibut. Service not very fast but kind, excellent draft beer, but I warn you that you spend around €50 each, the main dishes cost around €30, at least the portions are not huge. Beautiful windows overlooking the sea, I recommend in any case.

The food was mediocre. We ordered tempura cod, they could’ve just said fish n chips. The menu was alright. We got the fish and there was one piece of fish very small. With about 4,000 fries around it. The fish was very very fried. It was good but very crunchy. The decor and atmosphere for lunch was okay. It is very 80’s themed. Staff are really nice and welcoming.

We had the luxury of happening upon this restaurant during a layover on the way home. Although we showed up 10 minutes before opening, the gentleman opening the restaurant informed us that the kitchen would not open until 11:30 but invited us is to have coffee as we waited to be able to order. And when we did, the food was an unforgettable experience. We had the lobster soup that was the best we’d ever had, I had the Char and my husband had the Cod neither was a disappointment, a couple from another table shared their whale with us (it’s an acquired taste) then we decided to be adventurous and try the horse. The server was happy to answer all of hour questions and explain everything to us, so we could be confident in our decisions. I look forward to my next layover in Iceland

For a nice cup of soup a proud price. The pureed cauliflower soup had a good taste, but what bothered me a lot, the portion was very small for this proud price. In Reykjavik I usually had a double-sized portion. I found the disgusting, loud music disturbing, which takes away all pleasure from a guest. But I couldn’t waste much time going to another place.

One of the hazards of off-season travel is sometimes you end up with transition teams. The setting was very nice; we had a window seat. The beers were reasonably priced. The dishes were a bit hit and miss based on the descriptions on the menu. The creamy fish stew was more like a fish pie. They enjoyed it, but it could be eaten with a fork. The cod was nicely prepared, and I was startled to find I'd ordered a well-known Portuguese salt cod stew. Would we go back? Yes.

Great dinner with a view of the water. Very accommodating service even though they were dealing with a group of 70. We had fish and chips on the balcony, and the service was very thoughtful and friendly, offering us a blanket as it got chilly. It was a great way to end our visit to Iceland and only 10 minutes to the airport. We’ll definitely be back.

Unfortunately not so great. Ate lamb - unfortunately much too well done - no trace of red in the middle (perhaps pre-fried and heated in the microwave??) - not so great in taste either, as were the side dishes. Owner/waiter was a bit loud on the phone at the bar for more than 2 minutes. But when paying he probably forgot to ask if it tasted good. It didn't. Overall I was disappointed. But maybe just a bad day and you shouldn't eat lamb there. Whether you put whale on the menu is another question - horse, well, maybe it occurs naturally and can still be used - if it isn't raised specifically for food.

Stopped in because most of the reviews online were good. It was about 8pm and not a soul in the place. I asked if he were open and he said yes. I asked if people ate late and he was like it was a slow night. I ordered the fish stew. While my food was cooking, the waiter was sneezing and coughing. I asked if he were sick and he said he only had a runny nose. That concerned me but i pulled out my hand sanitizer and used it constantly and also knew he wasn’t cooking the food. Well the food came and it wasn’t what i expected. It wasn’t a soup at all (maybe that is what it is in Iceland) but more of a baked potatoes with cheese dish. I couldn’t really taste the fish and i was overwhelmingly cheesy. It made it difficult to eat. To say the least it was disappointing and I didn’t finish it all. The rye bread was heavy and sweet and just unappetizing. Very disappointed overall and not happy it was about $26 for it. Lessen learned - won’t ever eat here again.

We had some time to burn, waiting for the rest of our travel party to arrive in Iceland. We stumbled upon this restaurant. The restaurant trade here has been hit hard, and many were closed, or open just for dinner. This restaurant was not crowded, had a great view of the water and the waiter was very friendly. I had the lobster soup to start and it was the best I had in 10 days in Iceland. My wife and I both had fish chips and the fish was very fresh and very tasty! If you are in the area, I'd give them a chance. They won't rush you out, and don't wait for the check, just walk up to the bar and pay when you want to leave. No tipping in Iceland

I would reccommend their plokkfiskur/fish stew. It was smooth, warm, creamy and tasty. The Icelandic person with whom I was there said it is comfort food :) The view from the rows of window that open to the sea, seamed a little like I was in a ship. One person wanted to try whale steak - it was not bad, but defenitely not good as well.

The food was great, a bit pricey but it is expected in Iceland. The lobster bisque was really good. They serve exotic food like whale but we had a small lunch so nothing unique was ordered.

We had our final dinner in Iceland here. When we arrived around 6PM no guests were in the dinning room. But this is during COVID and lest travelers. The dinning room has big windows where you overlook the beach and the bay. We had the catch of the day. The fish was cooked perfectly. the fish was on an interesting bed of a grain/ mash potato mixture that worked well with the fish. The service as good even when a couple other couple came in after us. The restaurant was clean and ready for live entertainment when the time comes.

I was not impressed by this restaurant and it's one of the few TA recommendations that steered me wrong. It was entirely dead and the decor was like the dining room of a 1980's cruise ship. Yes, i know that Iceland is suffering from lack of tourists and are just opening up again, but we were hoping for a last dinner in Iceland that was a great sendoff but we were disappointed. The food was fine (barely) and nicely presented, but even my oil loving husband commented that the fish and vegetables were swimming in oil. I saw some other locations as we were driving through town that looked much more promising - do try somewhere else!

The food is great, however, beware that “green beans” are actually peas and “beets” is cabbage. They were advertising a Christmas dish of grilled lamb served traditional Icelandic style. That was the dish my friend ordered. The dish they brought out looked like ham, smelled like ham and tasted like ham. It was also cold. She wanted to substitute whale and they wanted to charge her for both. Finally the chef came out and offered to substitute whale. It was a rather tense and uncomfortable experience, but everything turned out ok in the end. I would be willing to try this restaurant again. I recommend asking a lot of questions about the dish you order so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Absolutely loved our visit to Rain. The food was gorgeous. I had some beautifully cooked lamb and my husband had the plokkfiskur which is a fish and potato cheesy dish, if you've never had it I'd recommend trying it. Classic Icelandic comfort food. Our server was an absolute star. The restaurant is quirky and characterful with a lovely picture window and view of the sea. And the music playlist was first class retro classics.
