Superb local food at a reasonably price. Restaurant is only open Monday to Friday, What a pity its not opened on weekends. Very friendly environment and great food. Its mostly frequented by locals and that's a wonderful recommendation in itself.

One of the Hotel Island staff told us about this restaurant. It is not a tourist place, rather, it's where the locals go, including the police for their dinners--the best way to find genuine, home-made Icelandic food! The food is served cafeteria style; every day, the restaurant offers at least one fish entrée and at least one meat entrée -... More

Excellent food, friendly service, generous portions and blissfully affordable. Approximately $25USD per person for a substantial meal- including dessert. Hours for dinner are from 5:30-8:00. No reservation needed. And if you are looking for the police, you'll find them here.

Mulakaffi won't win any awards for interior decor, cutting edge Icelandic cuisine or their wine cellar. That's not to say that you won't get a hot, filling and honest meal here, and not pay a lot (by Icelandic standards). You'll also get to dine with some of Reykjavik's finest when they are in for their meals; there were 10 police... More

This little gem was just around the corner from our hotel and we ate there the first evening. It seems to be a favourite haunt of the local police as quite a few came and went while we were there. A two course meal (soup and a main course + drink) cost us about £15 each. Believe me, in Reykjavik,... More

We actually ate here twice for dinner during a recent visit. It was located right next door to our hotel which was very convenient after a long day of tours. Lots of locals, including the local police. Not a lot of tourists. It's cafeteria style (you pick your meat (they had lamb & pork, and meatballs one night) or fish,... More

We went on TA recommendation. As reviewed before, always full of Reykjavik Police, but not in a bad way :) Lamb was excellent, the lady serving us saw that the tray was nearly empty & instead of giving us what was left, brought out a fresh tray of beautifully cooked lamb. Cafeteria style, with help yourself salad/soup/bread.

The 2 women serving couldn't have been nicer,so helpful and friendly. Best meal I have had so far and left very full as mentioned on here the soup and... More

They have limited hours but worth going there. We originally saw a lot of police cars around it and wondered ?? but found out it was because the police eat there. We had dinner there which could be a buffet or off the menu. I'd recommend the buffet. Large servings and all you can eat. Good Icelandic food.
