A lady in our hotel recommended that we go to Mokka Kaffi as we had asked where was good to have a waffle in Reykjavik. She said it was one of the oldest cafes in Reykjavik and where all the locals go so off we...headed, searching for this lovely red cafe. We loved it! My children said it was the best hot chocolate they have ever tasted and they begged us to return the following day, so we did! All the art on the walls changed overnight, and it had a really arty feel to the cafe. The cakes and waffles were excellent, as were the paninis. I will definitely return to Mokka Kaffi if we come back to Iceland.More
We called into Mokka for a quick coffee after visiting the Punk Museum. It is a busy little cafe although we did manage to find a table for the four of us. They did supply plant-based milk for my latte, and it was the only...place I visited that asked if I wanted to pay in GBP, although I wish I didn't as I saw straight away how expensive cafes in Iceland are compared to the UK. (Not a dig at this cafe but a general observation as they are all pricey to us Brits). They didn't appear to have much in the way of vegan food options, although my non-vegan friend had a little coconut cake that she said was delicious.
The staff was friendly although no table service even though there seemed to be enough of them to provide it.More
If you really want to enjoy a "damned good cup of coffee" - pay a visit to Mokka Kaffi!
You step into a time warp - cozy sorroundings, as they were 50 years ago. But they have taken good care of it - so it...is a very good experience.
Coffee is perfect - and the cakes are very delicious - and vegan, too!More
This was reviewed as having great coffee - but maybe the barista was having a day off when we visited. The coffee is pricey, and was average - the crema quality was poor and the milk froth, well it lacked the silkyness that really makes...a good coffee.
For the price, much better coffee can be had in Reykjavik.More
We were going to check this cafe out anyway having read it was the first place to install an espresso machine in Reykjavik but we were especially grateful for this stop off when we arrived as our hotel was only providing percolated hideous coffee due...to a machine breakdown!! The cappuccino and latte were both extra good and served up with a smile. Really liked the old school feel inside and only sorry we had no space for some ‘happy marriage cake’ which is still on the Iceland ‘to do list’!!!!More
This was the best place for yummy hot cocoa that tasted homemade with fresh whipped cream. My sister and I went here as much as we could as we loved the deco and feel and the hot chocolate most of all!
Decided to go here since it was the highest rated coffee place in Skólavörðustígur. One of the staff made derogatory remarks to simple and friendly questions like "what sizes do you offer?". The two lattes came with burnt milk, even though they were made separately,...one with regular and the other with soy milk. Completely undrinkable. I don't think this place employs actual baristas who have gotten proper training / certification.More
