As the other reviews have said, this is one big happy family, eager to make you a part of theirs. We even me Mama's father! Truffle hunting with Mateo one of his well trained truffle dogs was a blast...beautiful wooded area, and this dog knew all of the places to check to see if any more truffles had "ripened" in... I have visited Al Vecchio Convento for the last 4 years and intend to continue doing so every year. I have stayed at the beautiful, authentic Italian hotel, steeped in history and tradition. I have dined, both brunch and dinner on every occasion and cannot put into words the love and skill that goes into every dish to bring it... More

This was my second trip and it was a s good as ever. It is run by the whole family who make you feel v ery welcome in every way. On... More

What a magical location, green and lush. On the river and in the heart of the Apennine hills, between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. In this historical, medieval village stands 'Al Vecchio Convento', a converted convent, now a beautiful, traditional, family run Italian hotel and restaurant. Home made bread, cheese and cake! Freshly made pasta and the most excellent cuisine. Give... More

We ate here 7 years ago and promised ourselves to come back. We finally did. We were staying not too close but drove al least for 90 minutes through the Apennines to have lunch here. It was worth every km !!! Best Italian lunch ever. We told owner Marissa to "just cook and surprise us". It was a very quiet... More

After 15 years I returned to Al Vecchio Convento for dinner. Luckily I was able to get in without a booking. The good thing about my recent visit was that it has not changed. The building and decor are classic Italian, full of atmosphere and in picture perfect condition. What I had forgotten was how big and comprehensive the kitchen... More

I have just returned from two magnificent weeks at Al Vecchio Convento, and I feel as though I have left family behind. A week of Italian language study at Academy Olmo, a week of cooking class with the incomparable Giovanni, Massimo and Matteo, much hiking and walking in between - all this overseen by the warm and caring Marisa. Traveling... More
