We went in 4 people. At first, it doesn't look very food, the interior is simples and lack of maintenance, but the service is very good, the food is excellent and fair priced, as the beer. The best part is that no smoking is allowed inside. It should improve the cleaning in the toilets and could fix the furniture and... More

We stopped with the attention of a quick beer. Place was quiet - it was around 17.30 - couple of lone drinkers and a group of card players. We weren't quite sure what to make of it - slightly frayed at the edges, and some really random features (like a telephone booth) that looked as if they'd been there for... More

Called in at 18:00 but full up. Invited to make reservation for 19:00 which we did. On returning we were not disappointed. I had a beef dish with homemade pasta. Beef was very tender and melted in my mouth. Good beer. Staff are very friendly and helpful and you can see into the kitchen. Basic decor and furniture with bare... More

Located in a side street up by the Town hall and parliament buildings, we stumbled across this place by good fortune, and are delighted that we did! The food is all authentic, home cooked, wholesome fare, wahed down with some excellent beer. Fantastic value too - not many places will serve as good a meal with drinks as this in... More

WoW, this was a pleasant surprise. an unassuming little restaurant that does not look much but punches above its weight with friendly service and fantastic Food. The veal shank and potato Dumplings were to die for and the roasted duck, don't get me started. ate there more than once :-)

I was totally surprised by the very cool and nice waiter who treated us we were his best friends or family. He gave us tips on the food and tried to read our minds, which all seemed so genuine, I have never experienced a waiter like this before. The food was also great and the prices are good.

A good friend from Stuttgart recommended this place to eat schnitzel. I was not disappointed. Healthy portions and fresh ingredients were the order of the day. Recommended.

I went to restaurant with my wife for lunch. Food was good and prices on low level. I liked a lot even place did not look like restaurant. First it was bit hard to get service because it was rush hour. I can recommed this place.

This restaurant doesn't look great, but the food is genuine and very tasty. Good prices. Seems like a place for locals. We stayed at Fleming's nearby and enjoyed our first dinner so much that we returned a second time. The best schnitzel during our 2 weeks long tour through Austria!

The food was traditional Viennese staples. We ordered a roasted chicken which came with asparagus (in season) in a nice brown sauce and with a salad. Satisfying. The other dish, a beef goulash was extremely tasty in a rich brown sauce...paprika present but not predominant. Beer was good, as was the service. Lots of locals, so you know it is... More

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
