This is a coffee shop with a wonderful atmosphere. The coffees and other beverages on the menu are wonderful as is the food. Their pastries are a work of art and are delicious. I had the pumpkin soup for lunch. It was extremely good. The staff was wonderful. You are able to watch personnel work on food creations. There are... More

Vienna is a curious place. The tourist traps aren't traps at all! Demel is the Mecca of pastry in Austria and deservedly so. The pastry is second to none. We also opted for a couple of small dishes but the pastry here is king. This is one of two cafes in Vienna that are a must! See an upcoming review... More

The place for cake and drinking chocolate, if you can avoid the queues. A must visit but you probably won't want to brave the queues again ...

Not the greatest atmosphere in vienna cafes with not so polite staff. Great sweets and pies. The bar in the ground floor is great but you must book in advance!

Demel is full of the character of old Vienna. We sat outside in summer, but this time we were indoors. Try to sit at the back of the cafe, where you can watch up to a dozen people making beautiful cakes and other delicacies. Order their hot chocolate, with or without the cream topping; it's wonderful!

Popped in here for something hot to drink and a sweet treat. Cakes were delicious and reasonably priced. Not the best patisserie in Vienna but not bad at all. Definitely worth a visit!

We called in around lunchtime and were fortunate to find the queue for tables with only four people in it. By the time left it stretched to the door of the shop and there might have been an hour to wait. Service was fast and friendly and we were asked if we wanted our hot drinks with the meal or... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
