This place still really knows what it's doing....................... great food, ambience and value. Our waitress, Alice, was a super-star. Food took a little while to come out of the kitchen, but it wasn't a problem as it was well worth waiting for. Highly recommended.

The service was warm, welcoming and friendly and the food was excellent (Steak and Ale Pie and Venison Burger followed by apple crumble in our case). Bought an Artisan loaf on the way out too.

Stayed here for one night B & B. Room on the small side, but had everything you needed. Clean and well decorated. Had an evening meal here as well. Food was lovely and we were served quickly. Breakfast was also delicious. Staff pleasant and helpful. Just one picky point though, thought have preferred to see the breakfast waitress wearing all... More

I have known this Pub for many years, and by way of something different we chose to walk to the Pub on a Sunday for lunch. It has been operated for a few years by a new couple, who obviously know how to operate. The customer service was excellent, and conducted with a light and humorous touch. Nothing was too... More

The Sardinian chef put on a wonderful 5 course meal for £25, which everyone in our party of 12 thought brilliant throughout.

Pub grub can often disappoint but it can also surprise. The Chequers has done that on each of the three times I have visited it and their new autumn menu has 4 things on it I want. The venison burger was very juicy and the service is always pleasant and thoughtful

Not too many pubs can pull off being a decent place for a pint as well as doing good food in a nice atmosphere but The Chequers makes a good fist of it. Externally the whole place needs a damn good tidy up but once inside its pleasant and welcoming.

Had previously enjoyed this pub, decent food etc. Sadly on a lovely warm day when we were hoping to sit outside with a meal in the great little garden, itself very quiet and only and handful of people around we were told we couldn't. No reason for it and not like they were 'too busy', given the virtually empty dining... More

After changing hands a few times, the Chequers has finally got the perfect owners who know what their customers require. Unusually it's open on a Monday lunchtime, so we thought we'd give it another try. How delighted were we , excellent food, excellent service, friendly, happy staff. We have returned twice more, and will be going again soon.

Stopped in here for a weekday lunch following a friend's recommendation and was not disappointed. Beautifully furnished, exceptionally clean, easy parking and a lovely location with a large garden and a nice layout inside. Young female working behind the bar was welcoming and courteous, while maintaining an efficient professional approach. Ordered drinks at the bar (and very honestly priced for... More
