A really super old pub doing very nice lunches. The oxtail and the cheese & biscuits are particularly good. M had the feta cheese and spinach filo pastry pie with a salad which was really good. Chocolate mousse was good as was the sticky toffee pudding. A bit off the beaten track, but well worth it. Recommended.

A very wet day during our three days in Chagford, but we decided to go for a drive and picked out this place for a lunch stop from the good food in pubs guide. Bit out in the wilds but looked welcoming, when we arrived at about 12.45 there was no-one else there on a Wednesday lunchtime. Not a great... More

Visited this pub again with family. The weather was beautiful so we sat outside. The garden is fantastic and so beautiful. They are dog friendly. The lunch menu was vast and service good. Jail Ale was on tap and a bonus for me as it's my favourite. Our meals were lovely and we all enjoyed them.

Could not fault the food at all - nice menu with a good range of options. Friendly staff and warm atmosphere. Will go back.

Bee here before, but I believe they have a new chef. Certainly, the food cannot be faulted. Service was good, and the dishes were well presented and the flavours excellent. This place is growing in popularity as the standard is raised, and most of the customers were from the locality. There is a good selection to choose from, and varied... More

This pub is always a must visit for us when we are on holiday in Devon. Good service, excellent choice and everything we had was delicious. We were made very welcome as was our dog again.

We live in Cornwall and had a holiday in Devon a few months ago and found ourselves here for 2x lunches in 5 days. Today we drove some friends there for lunch and we all loved it. The Steak and Kidney pudding was excellent. Great beer and a buzzing place.

We visit this area of Dartmoor regularly living only a short distance away. The pub has a great country feel and an immaculately kept garden area. The bar area and gardens are very dog friendly with a lovely warm fire in the evenings. The food is very well presented and has always been tasty. The down side unfortunately is the... More

Many thanks for the review and glad you enjoyed the food and location. Unfortunately we have just put the price of beer up due to the increase in duty but will look into other brewers as we are a free house. More

Been here a couple of times before but this time is was a lot better. Food was excellent and the staff were very nice and helpful. Inside it was very nice and cosy and not too busy. I imagine it would get a bit cramped Peak season. Only thing to work on was the pricing, as much as the food... More

We pride ourselves on producing the highest quality food from the finest ingredients - beef, from local herds that has had a minimum of 21 days maturing; lamb and pork also from local farms; fish that is delivered fresh - never frozen - from St Ives daily; marvellous and varied English cheeses from Tavistock and fruit and vegetables from Helston. All our food is prepared and cooked from these fresh ingredients in our kitchen; no bought-in already prepared frozen food is ever used. Our menu and specials are ever changing and offer a wide selection to choose from including a number of vegetarian dishes. On Sunday lunchtimes we have a choice of two roasts (one of which is always sirloin of South Devon beef), steak and kidney pudding, haddock and chips together with a selection of dishes from the specials board.
