This is a proper pub serving proper food. The menu has a wide range of choices. The service is not only very friendly but efficient. We will return on a regular basis

Hi Dannie, Firstly we would like to offer you a huge apology for the poor experience you had with us on Sunday. You were right, I would have loved to have known and been able to sort things out on the spot but can also sympathise with someone who doesn't want to complain; I am the same myself! I do... More

Great country pub that offers everything a country pub should. Roaring log fires, good quality pub food & friendly welcome

Popped in without a booking for a relaxed drink and dinner. Firstly, very welcoming bar staff and good beer options. Next, we weren't planning on a starter but my wife is a sucker for a scotch egg and we were very pleased that we had one, we could quite comfortably have made our way through many many more. Main courses... More

We visited today for lunch. We went on recommendation as we wanted a traditional forest pub and that is exactly what it is. Not a bistro or a gastro pub but a traditional , old school pub. We had a bit of a wait for food as they were very busy but staff were very apologetic. It didn't bother me... More

We were excited to go to the Red Lion for dinner as a number of people advised it was a great place and eating experience. Not so for us I'm afraid. It started badly with the surly staff member who took us to our table. He was uncommunicative and gave off a distinctly unfriendly vibe that was definitely unwelcoming. I... More

Hi I think you have the wrong pub, as all of our bread comes from Jennings and Son bakers in Lymington a family run traditional bakery. We have not and will not ever use Brakes. Also at the Red Lion in Boldre all of our red wine is served at room temperature. I have flagged this to tripadvisor and contacted... More

4 of us went Friday night to celebrate a birthday. Starters were fine, 2 mussels, 1 scallops, and 1 venison scotch egg. Main meals: 3 were good, but I had the lamb chops which were overcooked and tough. Also the mash was a solid lump, and the veg tasteless! Another thing was the cutlery, which was poor quality and difficult... More

Lynnesg2001, If you had a problem with your meals why not mention it at the time? We always do everything within our power to put things right. If you had told us about the lamb being overcooked we would have replaced it for you no question, unfortunately some times chefs make mistakes after all they are human too, the same... More

Some of the New Forest pubs seem a bit indifferent - almost as though with a captive audience they cant be that bothered. Well, this pub is different. Just outside the national park boundary it is worth a trip out. The nice touches are not just the welcoming and attentive service, but that interesting menu based around local ingredients. They... Every time I visit family that live near by, I always make time to visit the Red Lion. Lovely lunch had by the open fire last week, tasty burger & chips. Oh down side is lacking a real chocoholic dessert .
