We hadn't booked a table and when we arrived on a Friday evening there was no space. The place was full. We waited at the stylish bar, very Scottish, with a nod to the harbour that is just outside. The menue is fresh and new,...More

Helgi's is a small, intimate, friendly place to enjoy a relaxed meal. The food is consistently good, the staff welcoming and the prices modest.

Found this via Trip advisor. Great bar with lots of choice and lovely local ales. Popped in for several drinks after wandering round the town when on a cruise. Did not eat but everything looked great and the place was full during mid week at...More

Warm, cozy, liked by locals. Good range of pub food; our broccoli and blue cheese soup on a chill day was the perfect warmer-upper. Street parking was no problem and close to pedestrian area for walk-about the old town.

Food in Orkney is generally not of a very high standard. It tends to be very basic. Having said that, we were agreeably surprised with Helgi's and their wait staff was some of the best we saw in Orkney.

Helgi's would be my local if I lived in Kirkwall or anywhere nearby on the Orkney mainland. I stayed in Kirkwall for a week in August and stopped at Helgi's every day. It's a peedie place - small, that is - though there's an upstairs...More

My husband and I ate both lunch and dinner at this restaurant although not on the same day. The food was well-prepared with good presentation. The wait staff was attentive and friendly.

Description
Firstly it is important for any new visitors trying to book or visit Helgi's to know that we are an over 18's only bar. That includes throughout the building and at all times. Helgi's is a small cosy pub overlooking the harbour. We serve good pub food of the home cooking variety, trying to use local produce where possible. We have a great selection of local ales in bottles and three Rob Hill ales on draft, we also have a good selection of Orcadian and Scottish whisky, and our wine list has been selected by our local wine expert, Duncan McLean from Kirkness & Gorie. We also offer a great selection of cocktails, beers and spirits. Please be aware that we have an over 18's only licence, which means that we cannot allow children, even for meals.
