It's difficult these days getting decent fish and chips so finding The Railway Tavern is a real find. We went today and after a small hiccup with the voucher we had (and which the owner sorted very quickly and professionally) an excellent fish and chip meal. Everything was piping hot and the fish was fantastic. Would highly recommend.

Booked here to host my dads suprise 50th birthday. Was a quick message on Facebook and it was booked in for us, and the pub even sorted the dj out for us so we didn’t have to worry about that. The staff were incredible being there from start (when we went down early afternoon to decorate), to early hours of the morning helping us tidy all the bits up. The prices are really affordable and reasonable, and with a chip shop attached makes it really handy, especially with little ones about, to give them dinner whilst the party went on. They were really chilled in regards to what we could do (have a photo booth for the party), and the landlords spirit to how many people we could have at the party “the more the merrier”. Shoutout to morgan and maddie who were incredibly helpful in setting up, packing away, and ensuring everything in between went smoothly!
Would 100% recommend to anyone!!

We had our Daughter christened on Sunday 17th September with our celebrations continuing at The Railway Tavern. We cannot thank Paul & Debbie enough for all they had done in regards to preparing and organising, nothing was too much trouble. They had organised a yummy spread for our guests (which received many compliments!), they had even offered to decorate the marquee for us so it was one less job for us to worry about and it looked beautiful. Their staff were fantastic, always making sure we were ok and if there was anything we needed. They had even made a little soft play area for the little ones 🥹 We really cannot thank you all enough and we would not hesitate in recommending you to friends & family ❤️

For some reason our short stay host recommends this place for local Fish & Chips in their welcome booklet. We went there one night just to be told they had sold out early. So we tried again the next night and wished we hadn't. Queued ages, which added to the belief that this place was of exceptional quality! Anyway, we received our order of plaice and chips and kids meal of cod bites and chips. We got home, all hungry. We were however, bitterly disappointed. As described in previous reviews, the chips were soggy, under cooked and tasteless. The fish batter was soggy with a bit of slimy plaice! The kids cod bites turned out to be processed fish cakes - really misleading! I for one, really don't understand why people queue for this food. Either there are no fish&chip places close by, other places are far worse or people are so used to eating such bad food they accept this as the real thing. Sadly an unpleasant culinary experience. This restaurant should take the negative reviews seriously and up their game as this is genuine critique of the food and perhaps misrepresents this part of the country to visitors.

Was on the way back from a day out and really fancied fish and chips..Wow.!!!!.So glad I made this discovery of a absolute gem...
Without doubt the best fish and chips I've had for a long long time.. Lovely large portion, cooked fresh, pipping hot and crisp..Thank you..

The Railway Tavern hosted our charity to a Fish and Chips Quiz event. Great atmosphere, 34 people enjoyed fantastic Fish and Chips served quickly and efficiently from the welcoming staff. They couldn't do enough for us. Many thanks From Dereham Aid Centre

Just brilliant!
The railway tavern catered for over 50 people at my house party.
Delivered when promised, piping hot. Nobody went hungry on these amazing chips! Could confidently say these were the best chips you could buy!
Wouldn’t hesitate to use the Tavern again!

I can’t thank the tavern enough for letting us host a team building afternoon. The staff were attentive, we had use of the gazebo and the fish and chips were excellent! Thank you Paul and the team at the tavern

Paul and the team go above and beyond to ensure your experience is a good one.
We held my mums Wake at the Railway Tavern, my mum has always loved it there as we have had 4 previous family functions there.
We had chip butties which were a favourite of my mum’s, the chips are always extremely good as any of the food on the chip shop menu, we don’t go anywhere else! Thank you for going above and beyond again.

This is what they call a LARGE portion of chips absolutely ridiculous. The queue was long as all other chip shops were closed and only one person was actually dishing up the food, took 30 minutes to get served.
