This is a fully refurbished modern yet characteristic delightful country pub offering a great homecooked menu with traditional pub choices and NEW griddle & grill menu. All dishes are made and produced onsite with a large selection of burgers, pizzas, sizzlers and sharers. There is a full wine list and friendly efficient staff. The lodge benefits from easy access from the A47 just a few minutes from Dereham and 10 miles from Norwich. Large hard standing carpark and enclosed family garden. Good honest food at good honest prices, more than just a country pub. Also a bespoke wedding venue for the smaller wedding party who wish for an intimate day.

We were camping nearby and hadn’t really settled upon much of a plan for our Friday evening meal - possibly a bit foolish given that many pubs and restaurants and still working out how to open safely in these strange times.
We felt extremely lucky to happen by chance on The Lodge Griddle & Grill. We turned up without a booking but luckily a table was available. Large sized menus were written on the walls and staff had neat visors for protection
We ordered a double cheese burger and halloumi and fries. I had an extra portion of mushy peas for good measure. Both dishes really nice and well presented by cheery and friendly staff.
Well done to all involved for getting things back up and running whilst abiding by the rules. A lovely place to eat and drink.

An early Sunday lunch, everything in order and correct for 'these days'. It's very difficult, isn't it, to create an authentic restaurant atmosphere with spaced out tables, somewhat nervous patrons and visored staff, but they do very well in the circumstances. The service was friendly and the staff alert without being intrusive; the roasts were well prepared and presented with plenty of fresh vegetables. Very good value too! Restaurant staff are under terrible pressure at the moment - someone said it was like having 5 Saturdays a week. Give them a break !

how correct you are! with the government scheme we have been incredibly busy with a smaller team, less tables and been serving 4/5 times the customers whilst still keeping everyone socially distanced in small family tables! it's certainly been hard work but we are proud to say our practises are in place and being respected by all staff and customers which has lead to customer satisfaction and confidence.

Stopped by The Lodge on our way back to our holiday cottage.
Pleasantly surprised at the interior and the welcoming atmosphere.
We were only going to have a drink but ended up having some food.
I chose the rump steak which was cooked perfectly, my partner had the fish and chips which he said was equally delicious.
Would definitely return while staying here in Norfolk.

We were staying locally and felt like we would like to have a nice meal but to take away. The staff were very friendly and helpful
on the phone. We got to choose the time to collect our food and it was ready when we arrived and delivered by a welcoming member of staff. Clear safety procedures were in place and staff were relaxed and calm.
Having not visited before, I can’t comment on the atmosphere inside, but certainly the new guidelines were clear from the outside- great and reassuring.
We ordered burgers but sadly they were surprisingly tough and chewy. The cob was nice and fresh, but the chips were average. Whilst the price wasn’t overly expensive, it was disappointing. I appreciate these are tough times and managing this, along with the pressure of the people who were dining in, must be hard. However, wouldn’t take-away again. A well-known fast food outlet sadly beat this meal on this occasion.
The stars are for the clear effort of the team, great staff and ease of service along with location and for that alone this place needs praise and thanks. Perhaps these are ‘teething problems’ as the other photos on here look amazing.

My wife and I plumped for a meal here for Sunday lunch as we wanted somewhere different to our usual haunts. My wife is a vegetarian and ordered the nut roast which was advertised as such and I ordered the pork. My wife was about to take a bite of her meal when she noticed the item in question looked a bit 'meaty' so I tasted the offending object and thought it tasted like sausage stuffing. I asked the waitress to take a look and she confirmed that it was... my wife was devastated but was glad that was the first thing she looked at before tucking in to anything else. The meal was replaced but my wife found the whole experience quite traumatic she was also upset during the meal. I ended up eating my meal before her as it was getting cold so ruined the experience. The waitress explained that there was a trainee chef that accidentally put the sausage stuffing on the plate. The pass should have spotted this however we were informed the food would have been undercover and wouldn't be seen!! To be fair the front of shop staff were bang on and we have no issues with that side of things, also the meal was refunded by the waitress however we won't be returning. In this age of veganism, vegetarianism and all other dietary requirements, it's unforgivable.

Indeed we can again only apologise that our new commis chef accidentally put a sausage meat stuffing ball on your wifes plate. ( He is actually no longer with us) Indeed we were as mortified as yourselves but quickly plated a new roast (obviously we deducted the full meal from your bill for the error) I am very sorry that this caused your wife such distress but hope you enjoyed your roast pork.

I really like 'The Lodge'. The atmosphere is great, it has a nice summer garden and the staff have always been charming and funny. They are also abiding by government guidelines superbly.
It saddens me to have to report that the burger I ordered which supposedly came with an additional cheese contained ever such a small amount of cheese. It was really quite boring. The beef was particularly condensed and tough for a burger.
My fellow diner had the lasagne and although better than my burger was also a tad indifferent. A side salad was ordered which consisted of some bitter leaves and a few tiny cubes of tomatoes.
Summarily... I've always liked The Lodge. The staff are lovely and I will go back. However... I can't help feeling that there's a lack of heart in the kitchen/food. A no thrills dining experience which on this particular occasion will be quickly forgotten.
I seem to remember that the pizzas here were pretty good but they aren't on the menu at this time. Additional point to note, there were absolutely no low carb options whatsoever on what is quite a large menu. i.e no main salads, no steaks, no wings etc
Finally... drinks are a little on the pricey side for rural Norfolk but they are done right.

Following the easing of lock down rules it was great to enjoy our first dining out experience for some time. Yes, it felt a little strange and slightly uncomfortable at first but there was no need to worry. The Lodge have excelled in their preparation enabling them to re-open their restaurant to the public. Clear instructions on the new rules and procedures to reassure customers and keep them safe. A reduced menu choice ( fully understandable ) but still with plenty on offer. We both enjoyed our steak and gourmet burger meals and look forward to our next visit.

From the moment we arrived we were completely looked after in these present times with plenty of space between tables and masks worn by all staff, even our dog was catered for regarding something to eat(peppers).
Food was excellent and plenty of it and good value for money.
My lad had the blue cheese burger and my life it was massive, so much so that he couldn’t finish it.. there was loads.Overall are experience at the grill was great and highly recommended a visit.

A proper pastry pie, with chunks of brisket in a thick gravy and delightful veg.
Mum choose and was very happy with the Mac and cheese starter with the additional option of the crispy bacon pieces.
A pleasant welcome by Vikki put away the fears of an empty car park (though to be fair it was 5pm on a Wednesday).
Clean, tidy and thought out touches in abundance, clearly ran by people who care (loved the gold painted what would be copper pipes in the toilets as an example).
I do like my food piping hot, which my pie was but my chips and gravy didn’t quite meet my high temperature expectations, however that was no reason to detract from 5 stars as my meal was so handsome in all other regards, home made, well made, good portions and great value (I think the pie meal was £14, mac and cheese £6.50).
No service charge, for lovely service, allows for genuine gratuity rather than obliging itself on the bill.
A one minute spin just off the A47 between Dereham and Norwich.
We liked it. I’m confident you will too….

Took my elderly parents to visit their equally elderly friend and wanted to take them all out for lunch. My Dad is 92 and has dementia and their friend late 80’s and very doddery on his feet so picking a venue with easy access was a must. Fortunately I have a friend from back in my school days who lives nearby who advised me to book here as the food was good and access was easy. When I booked I explained the situation and they made sure they gave us a suitable table. I called the day before to confirm and was told by the young lady I spoke to (Rachel??) to come in and let staff know when I was here and they would open the exit door to make getting in easier, she said she wouldn’t be there the following day but would let them know. We arrived and I did this, the staff could not have been more helpful, opening the door for us, checking temperatures and offering hand gel. The young man who served us was very patient, my Dad always gets a bit flustered with his food and needs to take his time, nothing was a problem, he was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food was good and enjoyed by all. It was their friends first meal out in 2 years so I was very pleased it was such a positive experience. Thank you for being so accommodating, you have a lovely team of staff. We will be back

Was looking forward to a good meal at the Lodge but was greatly disappointed. Ordered the Rib Eye Steak to be served one containing large amounts of gristle which rendered parts of the steak inedible. No staff enquired at our table after serving the meal to check all was OK. My complaint was voiced when the plates were finally cleared with the remains of the uneaten steak but as yet I am still waiting for any member of staff to speak with me - horrendous customer service. Will not be returning.

Oh dear!
It seems this is a mystery to our team as you will see from our reviews on TripAdvisor, Facebook and Google, our customer service is usually above and beyond customer expectation, we have a fabulous hardworking team.
Unfortunately on this occasion neither the front of house or the kitchen are aware of any steak complaint, i have individually spoken to them all as this is a complaint so out of character to the Lodge.
We use a reputable family butcher and our meat is usually of the highest standard, however on occasion the quality of a piece of meat may be a little gristly but something we would always offer to do something about if we were aware.
Please call myself, (Vikki) or Sophie the manager to advise of your date of visit so we can check your booking date inorder to investigate further, see which staff would have been on duty and also so we can advise our butcher of the issue.

We have eaten here several times for various occasions and for lunch and dinner. The service has always been fantastic (they are very accommodating) and the food has always been tasty and good quality. GF and vegan options. COVID safe - extra thanks to Rach and Tash for such attentive service.

Sunday Roast today at The Lodge was brilliant. The meal was hot, fresh and tasted lovely. Everything cooked to perfection. Despite being a warm day we sat inside, reserved a table a couple of weeks ago. Table to reserve on line was easy. When we got there was good so see a reasonably local pub/restaurant have not only a Food Hygiene Rating sticker of 5, but also the COVID 100% sticker of our local council. Was easy to see why have have both. Not only was the food definitely a trip to go back for, but the COVID care taken was 2nd to none They comply with every single Govt requirement for a hospitality venue. Well done to all of you.
Not only was the food amazing, but i said to my husband it is also the staff that make a restaurant/pub good. We could not fault our service, all done with care and so good to hear staff actually enjoying what they were doing. There were genuine smiles from all and friendly banter. Gold Star award to The Lodge Griddle and Grill from us.

My wife found this on line and booked for a Christmas Eve daytime meal as we were staying at Norfolk wood lodge 20 mins away. The staff very friendly and lots of choice on the menu and the portions were very big.
Would recommend the pie, lasagne and steak

Met here with two friends for an evening meal. Taken to table after a drink at the bar and seated quickly. I am gluten free, not impressed by markings on the menu was my first thought but waitress knew what she was doing. Starters arrived, one different to description. When questioned we were told 'well we changed it' but they hadn't changed the menu description. When challenged they offered money off the bill to compensate. Mains all arrived as described as did puding. All ok, nothing to write home about.
Bill arrived before asked (I think they wanted to get home!) and the discount not applied, so good job we checked. Have visited here before and been better catered for, but would be reluctant to go again.

That's a real shame. I assume you are referring to our prawn dish which has recently changed as i understand it you were not informed of the change, it is still a king prawn dish but it is no longer served with bread as the prawns are battered.
